Help Known Contacts Do Not Sound Ringtone

I have used my Samsung Galaxy Nexus for some years without issue, but it has developed an odd "fault".

The ringtone no longer sounds for known contacts, although it does sound for unknown callers. The phone "knows it is doing it" as a small grey speaker with a line through apears at the very top of the display when a known contact is calling.

I have a suspicion that there may be a time issue here, as occasionally the phone does ring as expected.

Returning the phone to its factory settings is my next step, although I am loathe to do this as I have several years of "setting up" in the phone.

Does anybody have any good ideas? Thanks in advance.

Go to your sound settings, and see if you can make a ringtone for cirtan contacts that call alot. or change your ringtone in general.

Thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately working on site until Saturday, but will try these things where when I can.

Found the cause of the problem. I have a call screening application running called "Extreme Call Blocker".

Following an update, it started to kill the ringtone for contacts, cause unknown. Backed up its settings to SD, removed it, reinstalled it and restored settings. Now works like a charm.
