Lack of Visual Notifications on the Note 5?

I am not only new to the Note 5, but I am also new to Android. One thing I find surprising is that for the most part, there does not seem to be any visual notification on any of my ToDo/Task type Apps that would display a number next to the App icon, like what happens on the Mail icon when you get new email.

I know that I can assign notification sounds, but they seem to be of short duration, and I find that they just don't get my attention. Is lack of visual notifications something that most App Developers simply do not code into their Apps, or am I just choosing the wrong Apps?

The problem I am having right now is that on my new Note 5, I have this recurring notification that vibrates approximately every 1 to 2 minutes, but I have no idea which app is responsible. I have thoroughly checked every single one of my Apps that have notifications, and turned off those notifications, but still this particular recurring vibe is still active. I think the only left to do is reset my Note 5, but it would be nice to know how notification came about in the first place, so I don't make that same mistake.

As far as having the Icon with numbers, that is usually a Widget not just the Icon. Check the Widgets for the App you are interested in and see if there is one and if so try it.
A lot of Apps have recurring notifications if you miss the first one they will beep or whatever again in a set amount of time. Try to remember what the first one was and then open the app and the rest should not happen.
It should also be a setting in the app to have repeating notifications, if you can find the app.
Good Luck!
Ron
