Help Lag problem when unlocking phone after longer period of time

hi all,

I have a problem like I described shortly in the topic.
When I try to unlock my phone after longer period of not using it, there is a lag during the slide move, it looks like it was happeining not fluently and slowly, and usually, when I get to home screen, after hitting any icon, it takes some time until I see anything. i.e. I hit applications, and all icons appear with a lag, unfluent movement.
But what strange here, and needs to be stressed, that it happens only after longer period of not using the phone. When I unlock phone, get it to work fluently, then lock, and then unlock right after that, I works fine. What may cause the problem? Anyone?

First, I thought it was because of widgetlocker, so I uninstalled it, but no luck.
Then, I cleared all cache, no success neither.
After that, I thought it's because of launcher pro, so I switched to android implemented home screen, but neither any better.
Finally I decided to upgrade to 2.3.6, but it also didn't help me a lot.

Do You have any suggestions what may cause this behaviour?

Thanks

Its the unlock lag, its usually there in custom roms, i don't remember it in stock roms(probably because its been too long since i used one :p).
Its just that your cpu remains at the lowest possible frequency when your phone is idle, but when you unlock it and start rapidly tapping buttons, the cpu takes time to get up to its maximum frequency and keep up with your fast inputs, thats what causes the lag. it'll be gone after a few seconds and you can work easily but it'll come back when you keep your phone idle for sometime.

If you are rooted and you use any cpu governing tool like set cpu, just set your minimum cpu frequency to 245 instead of 122 and set your governor to smartass, your lag problem will be fixed. Although this takes up a little bit more battery then usual but you gotta sacrifice battery if speed is what you want.

This was present in all stock roms since gingerbread 2.3.3 that i had. Solved with CM7.2 based rom and solution above!

I still had it in ICSunday 2 which is also based on CM7.2, but increasing the min frequency totally cleared it up.

thank You guys.
I was wondering actually if I should move to CM7.2 but honestly I would prefer to stay with stock roms for now. I'm new to this android stuff and wouldn't like to make any unwanted mess in my phone so it seems that the best way is to root my phone, but this is also like a black magic to me.. :)

I'm starting to read some tut how I should do it.
Thanks again.

guys, it seems there are ways now to easily root phones with one click, but I cannot find any answer if after doing that I loose all my applications and settings from my phone? cause if yes I will rather leave this..it's like making a 'format' on my pc, which I avoid like fire ;)

Rooting wont wipe anything. It will just allow you to use apps that require root access.

thanks pj and all of You guys,
I'll take a closer look at rooting then and decide if this is worth doing or not.

you just have to flash one .zip file and your rooted!!! Its that simple and there's no loss of any data anywhere in this process.

hi again,

I was very close to root my phone today and rise that idle mode frequency but I found sthg and came back here to tell You guys what caused the problem.

In this whole story there is one thing which I didn't notice, and omitted somehow - I had two lock screens installed, and the second one (lock screen 7) was kind of working even when disabled. (when I turned the phone on each time, there was an inscription, that "Lock Screen 7 bla bla bla" )

Anyway, when I uninstalled them both, the problem almost dissappeared.
It's not like that I have no lag at all, cause all moves are fluent but maybe a bit slower, but it's still way better. Even clicking the application icon, or shortcut takes me directly, with no waiting, where I want. Also I can't see such a big lag when clicking the dialer icon, when usually I had to wait 1-2 seconds for the contacts to appear.

To have an alternative for my 'stock lock' I installed the widgetlocker again thinking that all should be working fine after uninstalling the LS7, but the problem came back.

It seems that any lockscreen is installed, causes lagging during waking up the phone. I could live with this 'stock slide to the right' but honestly it's kind of uncomfortable task for me, especially in a hurry or when it's freezing outside, comparing to other methods, especially the one I described before.

Any suggestions now?

thanks!

Guys, want to thank You all for suggestions.

I decided to root the phone anyway and set the min frequency to 480mhz (was 240). It seems sufficient not to cause ANY lags even with any other lock screens installed different than the stock one.

thanks for all help!

Most of the CM builds have an option to change the unlock method, it gives options for ring style, slide tab, rotary style etc. You can look into that if you want to.
Also CM has the option to disable lockscreen altogether, just press home button and you are unlocked.

480mhz min frequency will definitely eat up your battery.
