Landscape headache

Okay unless I am watching music videos or a movie, I keep my phone on portrait mode.
Over the last week or so I will turn off the auto rotation after I am done watching what ever but then a few minutes I will go to use my phone and it's back in landscape mode.
I will check and make sure the auto rotation off.
So far restarting the device has solve the issue.
Unfortunately while it seemed to be occurring sporadically
The last few days it's been occurring more frequently and to complicate matters my device has begun to freeze up each time this has happened over the last day or so.
Not sure what is causing the problem

Q beta or stock? I've found in Q there is a separate setting to have the launcher rotate too.

Rather than toggling the Auto Rotation setting, have you considered just tapping the little rotate button that appears in the navbar when you turn the phone sideways?

I use that most of the time since I (like you) prefer to use my phone locked into portrait mode.
