I've set myself the goal of learning to speak French. Can anyone recommend a good app to teach me?

Frankly I think most of the free and paid language apps for Android can be rather basic and amateurish, and sometimes have errors. They'll teach you a few words and phrases, but that's about it. I done a similar thing a few years ago, set a goal of leaning to speak Mandarin.
I found having a good book on the language I was learning to be more useful to me than any app.

I'm now thinking it would be nice to be able to talk to my neighbour in her native language.
