Laptop Recommendations

Hello, I am looking at purchasing a new laptop. I was hoping to get some suggestions on what some of you would get with a budget of $1000 and under.

I have went back and fourth on several models, one thing I do know I want an i5 or i7 processor. Any suggestions?

I would recommend getting a Desktop and then a netbook. Desktops can do so much more, and get upgraded (for example a video card), but laptops cannot. Desktops are also much cheaper. And if you get a desktop, netbooks are great! you can tether your droid via PDAnet and remote in and manage all your files, etc.

Just my opinion.

I just got this laptop a month or so ago: Toshiba - Satellite Laptop with AMD Turion™ II Dual-Core Mobile Processor - Midnight Breeze - L505D-GS6000

Soon as I got it home I put 7 Professional on it. Only complaint I have is the touchpad is really sensitive and the only way to disable it is via a keyboard combination which doesn't work if you uninstall Toshiba's system. I have not tried updating the keyboard drivers from Toshiba to see if that would help any (gonna do it right now while I'm thinking about it actually.)

Everytime someone asks me for PC configuration I always ask 2 things.

  1. What is your budget?
  2. What are you going to use it for?
You already answered the first question, now we would need to know what you are going to use your computer for.

Unless your a benchhead, gamer, photo or video editor, I would suggest sticking with the i5. There is no significant performance advantage between the i5 and i7 and you can use the money saved in another place such as memory, storage or video card. It of course depends on what you will use the laptop for. For basic internet surfing, school work, media player work etc. You don't need much more. But for gaming it can get expensive real fast if you want to play in the highest resolutions possible.

I ordered a refurbished laptop from Dell over a year ago and absolutely love it. My cousin also just bought a netbook from them. Prices are great because they are refurbished and the great thing is they come with the same warranty as new ones do from the factory so no loss there. Check it out!

Howdy! In order to better help you choose a laptop, it would be beneficial for you to let us know what your needs are. For example: what would your primary use be--gaming, graphic design, music production, casual web surfing...
