Alright guys,

Need a little bit of help as i am stuck with whats happening to my machine.
Right it has been dropped to start with. i no not a good this to start with i know but it fell off the settee, Right even since then every thing works on in, Thing is when ya turn it on windows boots up with no problems and will staff on after a while or when you try and load something, It turns off. and i have no clue on why it does this? is it windows? or is it a hardware issue? as in heat and cooling? cheers guys for the help in advance.

Could be a lot of things .. could be the drop has broken some connection somewhere and that is what's shutting things down periodically.

My guess is that the drop has damaged part of the hard drive. Given the machine is still partly working, the damage is probaby not too great, in which case, running chkdsk to fix any bad blocks/sectors might help. It certainly wouldn't hurt.

To do this:

- open Windows Explorer (Windows Key + E)
- select the C: drive
- right click and select Properties
- go to the Tools tab
- click Check Now ..
- select all tick box options (fix errors and scan for bad sectors, I think)

(all this is from memory, so it may not 100% accurate).

You will be prompted to run the scan on reboot. Agree to this then either re-start the computer or repeat the above instructions for any other hard drives on your lappie, then re-start.

NB: chkdsk takes AGES to check big drives. You might want to kick this off before you go to bed.

Once you've run chkdsk, it might be a good idea to also run a repair on your windows installation - can't recall how to do this, but as ever, Google is your friend - in case any of the bad blocks were in system files.

alright fella, well done all that what you said to do. the laptop doesn't do it as much but its still doing it, any thing else i can do to stop it?? thanks

Hmmm .. Could be so many things, but most probably, it's hardware-related.

If the laptop is still under warranty, you should contact Samsung and have them look at it.

Since the problem was caused by the drop, it's unlikely the repair itself would be covered by the warranty, but if you or a repair shop open the laptop up, you're probably going to invalidate your warranty which could still be good for other things that might go wrong.

If I was a betting man, I'd guess the drop has dislodged either the heatsink or a fans cable connection and your suffering from overheating.

Might take several attempts, but try to boot into BIOS and hope theres a temp readout there, if it constantly climbs after 5-15 mins it's most likely the issue. As tuna said, it could be one of many, there are many connections in there that could have been dislodged, but overheating is the main one that comes to mind.

ya no what i think thats what it is, i Think its a heat issues because if i leave it alone it will stay on longer than if i use it. Also the trackpad get really hot, I thought of that first. but just wanted to make sure. Rightio then looks like some thermo paste and a nice hour taking it to bits then. cheers guys

alright guys just thought i would give you guys a update. took me computer to bbits and noticed there was the biggest ball of fluff and shit in the heatsink and fan cleaned it all out and seems to be fine now.
