So I bought a Motorola Droid with stock Android. I was jealous of all of my friends with more than 3 home screens. My search began. I tried a few other home apps and they were okay. But then I found Launcher Pro.
Launcher Pro is a great free app that is in Beta testing currently. It works great for the most part, but there are some minor quirks. Most of the times when they update the app the quirks are fixed and new ones arise. Most of the time the new quirks can be easily over looked. Other times they can be a real show stopper. For instance, right before the 0.4.4 update Launcher Pro was causing multiple apps to lock up and therefore lock up my phone. This seemed to be a completely random issue as other friends using it had nothing wrong whereas myself and 2 others experienced the same thing. But when they realize there is a problem they fix it and release an update.
All in all if you want a good free (at least for now) home app to give yourself some extra functionality. Go grab this app. I know I like it so much, I will be paying if they ever decide to charge for it.
Pros:
- Setup and settings are eaasy to change and understand. Nothing is hidden on the settings menu.
- You can get up to 7 home screens and you can choose which screen to start on at boot up.
- It has a lot of small tweaks to make the experience your own. I.E. Hide the notification bar, Elastic scrolling, Number of icons in menu screen and home screens.
- It runs fast and clean with very little lag. (But see cons)
- Updated often.
- It's free!
Cons:
- It's a beta application so therefore expect some beta issues.
- It is patched often which as a pro is also a con stating there is a lot of work being done.
- When it does lag it can bring the whole phone to a grinding halt for upwards of 30 seconds.
- Elasticity can get a bit annoying and bounce around your screen, but you can turn it off.
