Learning Linux

Hello all
I am very interested in learning linux. I was just wondering what are the better books for beginners. Also are there any good websites that I can practice with before I install Linux? Sites like codingbat.com (I know codingbat(java, python, etc.) is different from linux but I think its great that you can practice coding there.). Also should I learn C before I start or can I just start learning it. Thanks for your feedback guys!

You don't need to learn how to code to use GNU/Linux. However, knowing how to use the command line is a benefit.

Quite a few distros have a 'live' cd which means you can boot GNU/Linux off the cd/dvd load it and try it without affecting your current hard drive state. If you don't like it, simply reboot back into windows.

Some sites to visit;
The GNU Operating System for some history and information on what free software actually is.

DistroWatch.com: Put the fun back into computing. Use Linux, BSD. keeps tabs on the latest distro releases

Linux Mint Forums • Index page Mint (a very friendly forum and favorite distro of mine and many others)
Trisquel GNU/Linux | Run free! (a truly free (see GNU link above) distro I'm liking more and more, an off-shoot of Ubuntu but imho better).
LinuxQuestions.org a general forum for answers.

You can download a live CD for many of the popular distros ... Ubuntu, Fedora, Mint, etc. that will let you run wihtout installing.
