Help LED notification light

Hi all,
I just got my Xperia Z3C. The LED notification light is set to alert me when there is a message, but I've only ever seen it come on as a 'charging status' light. Has anyone else seen this?

I got mine last Friday it came set up with the LED working on with messages I did see it in settings but can't be sure where I saw it
