Hmm, I've seen such things in alphabetical lists, to show which letter you are currently in. So the obvious problem here is that it's got stuck.

Does it appear in other things, or just the app drawer? The app drawer is produced by an app called a launcher, so there may be an option in the launcher's settings to turn it on or off (of course if you use the built-in launcher I don't know where they put the settings, as I don't have a Moto). But since it's clearly stuck as well have you tried the simple things like rebooting the phone? Finding the launcher app in Settings > Apps and clearing its cache would also be worth a go (if it is the launcher doing this, i.e. it's only in the app drawer, then clearing the launcher's data will certainly fix it, but you'll have to set up your home screens from scratch after that).

Thank you for the help! Should have just tried restarting it. That did the trick.

On a whole 'norther note.. I'm not sure if the one year old grabbed the phone by accident, but.. I can't tell you how many times I've heard stories of phones getting either physically broken, or find out you've paid for stuff on your phone, or any of a million software issues, by parents and grandparents who hand their multi hundred dollar or more device to little kids to keep them occupied. My own kids have done this with the grandkids, more than once. They might think grandpa's a jerk for keeping his phone out of sight, on the other hand, it's a three year old phone in mint condition. A coloring book works just as good! :) not trying to "scold" anyone, just good advice.
