LG G watch - wrist turn won't it light up

Not sure why, but when I lift my LG G watch up to check time, it won't light up. I've tried all kind of wrist up gestures, and it simply won't light up unless I double tap it.

Settings I have are:
Always on screen: OFF
Wrist gestures: ON
Theater mode: OFF

Not sure what else to toggle.

Go to android wear app on your phone and turn on "tilt to wake". That is the feature that turns screen on when you lift watch in front of your face so the watch face is vertical.

"Wrist gestures" is something different (things like rolling your wrist to advance notifications, I think)
