Help LG G2 reboots randomly after 4.4.2 update (Three)

mrobbo

Newbie
Hi,

I have an LG G2 (LG-D802), and am with Three (I'm in UK).

I received the update to 4.4.2 KitKat a couple of weeks ago, which I installed straight away. Since this update, my phone reboots itself approx 6-10 times a day.

Points to note :

- Phone has never been rooted, I have only used stock factory ROM
- Rebooting NEVER occured before this software update
- Have tried numerous factory resets, but problem persists
- After factory resetting, I made sure I did not install any apps to see if I could isolate the issue, but problem persists
- No widgets, but problem persists
- Turned lock screen off, but problem still persists...

Does anybody please have any further ideas as to what might be causing this? Many thanks

Call LG and get a replacement. That really should not be happening. If you haven't rooted the phone there is no reason why it should be rebooting, specially that frequently.

I certainly will be contacting LG. That said, I've tried one more thing, and that is to keep GPS turned off. No reboots in eight hours. Will not turn GPS on all day today, and will see how many reboots I get, if any......

EDIT - Well I spoke too soon. One hour after this post, it rebooted.

I would call for a replacement as well. However, and this depends on if you have the problem only at home, try disabling WiFi for a while and see if you have a problem related to WiFi...

Also, after performing an FDR, are you downloading some third party app or doing something funky with some widgets each time ?

The only other possibility if you were game would be to attempt to use the LG Mobile Support Tool to reflash the phone again.... and maybe in consultation with LG support whom I'd call on this problem...

Good luck.

I've had quite a few random reboots since the update, but not 6-10 times a day. I think my problems were mainly do to T-Mobile's Visual Voicemail app (which I just don't have set up anymore). I did a factory reset last Friday and haven't had a problem since.

Whether I'm at home on wifi, or away from the house on 3g, it reboots. It'll reboot after having performed a factory reset with no third party apps installed. It even reboots when in safe mode. There seems to be no pattern to when it reboots; sometimes immediately after turning the screen on, whilst browsing facebook/internet, accessing settings, you name it.

Thank you for your suggestion re: LG Mobile Support Tool. I will give this a go now.

Interesting that you have had reboots as well. Glad you managed to find the culprit. I'm not with T-Mobile, which is a pity, giving you managed to find a solution!

I sure hope it's fixed! Just curious, but have you experienced random microphone cut out while talking on the phone (assuming you can even use your phone in its current condition)? I'd be talking on the phone and my mic would apparently go dead because the people on the other end couldn't hear me talking and I'd get, "Are you there? Are you there?" At first I just though I accidently bumped the mute button, but that wasn't the case. This was happening during my phone's reset phase. This has only happened after the Kit Kat update.

Could the culprit be an app from your carrier? I feel bad for you because I know how frustrating those random reboots can be. Even with the G2 having very fast boot up time. I used to have an LG Esteem that would do the same thing a couple of years ago, but the damn thing would take 5 minutes to boot up. Damn near threw it out the window of my car one day. Most frustrating experience I ever had with a phone. Never found out what was wrong with it. I sold it to some other poor soul a year ago.

Well, it's something to try. Yeah, report back so we know if that helped or not.

Very strange. I feel for you too. I'm with dportal2006, could very well be an app from the carrier, and the performed insufficient compatibility testing. Is the device popular where you are on your carrier? You'd think if it were an app from the carrier, others would have been seeing the issue as well.

I'm with Verizon, and we are the last to get KK if we get it at all. I'm confident they are testing it like crazy. :D

I hate myself for asking... you report it reboots even if in SafeMode...is it possible someone dropped your phone? reboots can also be caused by a short, or more likely a fracture on a motherboard leading to a heat flakey (as the MB warms, or cools, the fracture causes an intermittent connection, a loose pin because of a cold solder joint or mechanical stress, or a poorly connected battery... I mean, you are attributing the cause to the KK update (and it's probably connected), but there are other possibilities.
