LG GW620 will be getting an official 2.1 Android update

I could be wrong, but I believe the Eve's specs arent far off from the magic, and the magic is confirmed to be getting 2.1.

I think the eve has 256 know of RAM vs the magics 288. And i think they have the same 528 mhz processor. I. Even think the Rom size is similar but LG lists it differently.

I think there is not a big difference when it come to smartphones.

My partner at my job go a OmniaII and his battery doesn't last much longer.

I charge mine every 2 days, so is he, and we both turn the phone off at night.

Perhaps I missed it posted above but
1. 2.2 is out for the LG EVE (official LG EVE 2.2)
2. 2. 1 is slow compared to 2.2, there is a big difference between the two for speed. Do not waste your time with 1.6 or 2.1.
3. LG has a few new phones coming out soon so I don't see why they would want to continue developing for an old unit.

Again 2.2 is out. I am using it and it works great. I have no complaints so far. Add Launcher Pro and you have an amazing device. Unlock the CPU to run at 710Mhz instead of 528Mhz and you now have a faster phone. The 710 speed can be set to on demand so it will only use the power as needed. Get into the secret menu and set your phone to GSM (if you do not have a data plan) and conserve your battery life even further.

how did you put the 2.2 on your lg, i tried using the lg updater software from the website, i let it run its course and it did nothing to my phone what so ever, even though on the lg site it says there is a update available for the lg gw620.

2.2 is not an official update for the eve authorized by LG
The 2.2 will require you to root the phone.

I don't know if they have fixed the camera resolution yet on this froyo update.the last few ones that came out did not allow you to use the higher resolution for pictures. For this is a no go for the moment.

Can you please stop spreading FALSE information.
There is an LG OFFICIAL 2.2 release. It is posted in here and on the XDA forum. I am running it along with a few others with no problems it even starts up with the LG LOGO.

Granted it was for the KW5000 model known in Korea as it's also known as the GW620 in Europe and known as the EVE to the rest of us.

There are lots of threads posted here on on XDA with info on where to get the files and how to update your phone. DO NOT use the LG install utility. You want to use the Android SDK tool with Fastboot to push the boot and system files to your phone. There are videos on youtube for this phone and using fastboot. It's pretty cool being able tobackup your entire phone in 5 minutes and or installing a new operating system in less than 5 minutes too. You need to keep the fastboot ability.
 
im still on 1.5, i cant get into fast boot or anything, dont really know what im doing here lmao. not used to all this stuff, but to make my lg gw620 look better ive put slidescreen pro on it, it gives it that "newer feeling" so to speak.
also looking at other home replacements,

also what app can i use so i can stop certain apps when the phone boots up, cos when i turn my phone on i have slide screen pro on but when i go into manage my apps it still shows my default home is running

I am calm, I just don't like to see people making false statements and making it appear as a fact. If you don't know or are not sure then say so. I believe there are quite a few threads here with the title LG OFFICIAL 2.2 FROYO RELEASE...plus many others stating they installed the LG 2.2 release.

ive tried to update my gw620 now numerous times with KDZ_FW_UPD and im not getting anywere it wont even find my phone, even though i had all the drivers installed for my phone.
 
finally i done it with kdz_FW_UPD. i have now have android 2.2 v20d on my lg gw620, works great.

but dont have a live wallpaper selection??
 
Hey guys, I read your thread and I realize that I might help my problem with little help from you.
1st of all I need your opinion, I can't make my phone works with the LG upgrade tool, always says phone not connected, I have tried removing application, download it in win 7, win xp, and other pc with win xp, same response, phone not connected, one time on an xp pc, I leave the phone connected to the usb and pc and restart the phone, some how while the phone was in the android screen (appears when it's been turned on) the lg tool detect it, and it start to connect and update but when the phone was completely restarted and on the home screen the app says phone not connected again it's so frustrating, and my question for you, is there something wrong with my phone? should I take it back to the company that sold it to me? if you think this is kind of normal due to the LG tool working bad, Can you help me to do it with other applications? for instant the ones you are talking about "Android SDK tool with Fastboot" where I can get it ? I mean with more details about how to do it, please!

Hi there! Welcome to the fun. :) I can't speak to the LG upgrade as I went from the original 1.5 to the OE (Open Etna) custom ROM using the SDK tool. If you are ready to go to a custom ROM (which will void any warranties) then hop over to :

and have a look through the forums over there. There are quite a few different versions. I've tried a few now and I am presently running OpenEtna 6.3-rc7 and it seems okay.

Now if you are on Android 1.6 (which the LG tool is supposed to do) then I believe you will have to go back to 1.5 to update to the newer versions (ie Android 2.2).

I suggest you immerse yourself in the forums over there and learn about the process. I spent days pouring over everything and making notes. I finally got up the nerve and plunged in. Had a hiccup or two until things got straightened out but now everything is great. Others seem to have problems but I guess I'm lucky! :)

Android updates go Google > Manufacturer > Network, if the manufacturer doesn't produce an update for a handset, there's nothing the network can do.

As for not being able to call the GW620 an Android handset, that's simply not true. It's like claiming a PC doesn't run Windows because it's still on XP.
The GW620 is an Android handset, it simply doesn't run the latest version.

Also, even if LG were to provide an update to Froyo (2.2), you wouldn't be able to use Flash on the GW620 as it doesn't meet the minimum hardware requirements.
The CPU isn't up to scratch and the screen resolution is too low
