LG K8 Magnetic Sensor not working

I have a new LG K8 2017 phone. I hadn't realised that the compass doesn't work on google maps until now when I am travelling away for the weekend and so need it! The maps works and the blue dot moves, but it doesn't show the way you are facing. And I think I know why...

I downloaded a compass app and got an error msg saying no magnetic sensor. I checked the specs of my phone description online and it seems to say it has a magnetic sensor for compasses. I also downloaded CPU-Z as reccomended by googles searches, I don't see a simple magnetic sensor setting on there but I guess it isnt working.

What could be the cause of this magnetic sensor not working? It makes it much harder to use Maps without a working compass, please help thanks!

I don't think its the fact "the magnetic sensor" isn't working... I think its because you don't have a magnetic sensor in your phone.

Its one of those things that we often take for granted.. but sometimes isn't included in a phone. I have a colleague at work who was surprised to find out his samsung from a couple of years ago didn't have one. And like you it took him a few weeks to realise it.

Hmm I had an LG K8 which I water damaged so had to buy the 2017 model as a replacement. I thought that phone had a working compass. I did check the phone specs of my new phone and like I said it did say it had a working compass when I read it:

https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/mobile.phonebunch.com/amp/phone/lg-k8-2017-2788/

'There is a fingerprint sensor present on the LG K8 (2017) as well, along with a magnetic field sensor (compass), ambient light sensor and accelerometer sensor.'

I didn't buy it from a phone shope (Argos) so im not sure what they could do about it. I might take it into Vodaphone (my network provider) and ask them.

Does anyone have an LG K8 on here who can tell me if theirs works? Or is there an LG section I could post it, I'm new on this and couldn't find anywhere.

According to GSMarena this phone only has accelerometer and proximity. And it doesn't have a gyro either, so forget trying to do VR and AR type things with it.

So as to why the magnetic sensor isn't working, is because apparently it doesn't have one.

For reference this is CPU-Z on my Oppo, note it has a magnetometer.

Ok thanks, seems strange but the website I read showing the phone specs must have been wrong then. I managed without the compass anyway, makes you work things out yourself when navigating so maybe its not a bad thing!
