LG Optimus V sales done.

Checked this morning. Phone was around $120 ~ $150 depending on which retailer you went to. Today it's back to its original $200.

I don't want to go with Cricket because the dorm I'm living at has literally no service, and because their mail-in rebate is effectively useless. a $50 pre-paid visa really isn't a rebate. ;\

I don't want to get virizon because I do not want a contract. I'm a low-income student and if any aspect of whichever plan I come up with changed, I'd be screwed.

I haven't done enough research about the other carriers just yet.

I was really liking VM, but I just can't afford $200+Tax+Shipping+The plan. I'v got a $200 budget but that's really just taking into consideration the tax and shipping of the phone.

Any suggestions? I wish VM flashed phones because I can still purchase OTHER Optimus models on craigslist for $120. :\

Hmmm...maybe radio shack has an Optimus V for less than that....

I know you dont want to sign a contract but there is always Sprint & Tmobile who are the cheapest big 4 carriers

Benefits of the contract...if you like the Optimus V(these carriers offer these phones at the subsidize price of free or up to 50 bucks) You could likely save money on the phone and put that towards your bill for at least 2 months....

Downside--your signing your life away to them for 2 years(or one year)

BUT...i wouldn't worried about them changing your rate plan too much because them doing so is usually a free way out of the contract....

With Tmobile I have the lowest mins possible, unlimited texting and 200 mb of data for 59.99 currently

I am going to transfer to Vzw later and unfortunately I'll be paying 89.99 for 450 mins, Unlimited Data(that i won't need) and Unlimited texting. At&t is similar in pricing.

Sprint offers the Lg Optimus V and for 69.99 bucks a month you get Unlimited Calls to ANY cellphone, 450 mins to call landlines, and Unlimited Web and Data.

Given the fact you are trying to go the prepaid way, your phone will be a lot more expensive than going with a carrier.

Good luck with whatever you choose!

You could always try and find a used Optimus V on EBay or something if you don't mind a used phone.

This is definitely an option. I'm switching to VM, and I went to ebay to try n' find a good deal on a phone. I ended up getting a good price on a used Intercept, but there were definitely plenty of auctions going on for the Optimus V.

The winning bids for them were typically anywhere between $140 and $200. So, you might not save a ton, but you could save a little, anyway.

I checked everywhere in town and didn't find it for any less than $200, so I just bit the bullet. Really hurt making that decision though.
