Root LG Spectrum help

I am terribly sorry if this has been answered before but I have read countless topics on rooting and I still am confused on this topic. When my Spectrum was on GB, I tried rooting and I got it to work once but I had no idea what to do with it. I tried flashing a ROM but I had no idea how to do it and enter that menu that everyone seemed to be accessing. I then unrooted and left it that way. While waiting for the ICS update, I got impatient and tried rooting again but it would not work. Everytime I tried to run the bat file, it would say "daemon started successfully" and not move from that step. I had both USB debugging on and the connection set to Ethernet and still nothing. I thought it was a bad cable so I tried out three more that I had lying around and all of them gave me the same result. Now that the ICS update is here, I've enjoyed it but I'd like to enjoy some rooting features. From what I've gathered (correct if I'm wrong, which I probably am), rooting is available for ICS but the bootloader is locked and this could end up in my phone being bricked if I make a mistake. I am a total newbie to all this rooting stuff so some terms, I don't recognize. Can someone please explain some of this to me? I tried reading the guide but there are some things I don't understand. Is it safe to root with ICS? Flash a custom ROM?

Again, sorry if this has been answered before. I just grew desperate for some help.

How exactly did you do this, and what exactly happened? It seems like your PC doesn't detect your phone. Did you try running ADB devices in CMD to see if it detects the phone?

First and foremost, slow down. I can hear the panic in your post.

Second, read this thread. It answers more or less everything asked since ICS release.

Third, see one of these topics if you are positive you know what you are doing and want to root and unlock your boot loader. :::WARNING::: We will not help you if you brick your phone because you skipped over the instructions because you didn't want to read every word.

Well, the first time I tried flashing a ROM, there was this menu people kept entering by resetting their phone and holding down a button combination but I had no idea how to enter. This was a couple of months ago so I don't really remember too many details of when I was rooted.

For the time I tried rooting once again, I downloaded a zip that contained a few files including the bat file I tried to use. It would say to ensure USB debugging is enabled, to have the latest LG drivers installed (which i do) and that my phone is connected via USB. I made sure all of these were taken care of and went to the next step which was simply "press any key to continue". The first thing that would happen is it would say

[*] Waiting for device...
*daemon not running. starting it now *
*daemon started successfully*

And it would stay there. I tried giving it time (up to an hour) and it would not move from that step.

That sounds like your phone isn't being detected by the PC. Go into CMD, go to your ADB directory (or the folder with the .bat file), and have your phone connected as it would be if you were going to root it, with USB debugging and the like, and type in cmd "adb devices".

If it does not show any devices, your PC can't see your device, in which case the issue would lay in your drivers.

I'll try both of your suggestions. Thank you for your help, I'll reply back with the outcome.

is anyone having issues when you go to reply a text back and caps doesnt work? it just started to happen with my LG spectrum

Alright, so I eventually gave up that day on rooting but today, I tried putting my phone in Modem instead of Ethernet and it moved past that step. My phone 'should' be rooted, is there anyway I can confirm this? I remember downloading an app when I first rooted but I fail to remember the name. Thanks for your help :D

Another question:

I already had this downloaded: http://androidforums.com/spectrum-all-things-root/637556-root-lg-spectrum-ics-ota.html

and I used that to root but now it seems I need to use this: http://androidforums.com/spectrum-a...20-bootloader-pwnage-tool-lg-spectrum-4g.html

Is this correct? If so, do I unroot and then root with the second link?

Edit: Nevermind, I found out that you don't have to unroot for this.
You only need the second tool if you also want to unlock the bootloader (and install CWM). While this is something that is very awesome and I can't wait to do to my daily driver, the custom kernel used in the unlock seems to cause trouble with Bluetooth pairing. I'm sure the devs are all over it, but caveat emptor!
