Lg V20 crashes

jhelms

Lurker
The past week my Lg V20 will not attach anything in a text message, when you click the + it closes app. Also when you open cloud it does the same thing. Any ideas? Really frustrating!!

few questions

has your mobile taken the new OS update and is now on android 8.01 (or whatever it is)

and

since this started have you done a full re-boot of the mobile. IE complete shutdown and reboot. After that maybe pull out the battery and reboot.

Tried that, same results

A complete factory reset may be useful for 2 reasons:
1. A factory reset is always recommended after a large/serious update to reduce bugs and conflicts due to leftover files from an obsolete piece of FW.
2. Some dirty apps have been getting into the Playstore with massive downloads before malware was found and more have been coming. Some of these have Phone & SMS access and they can be a culprit since they're probably doing stuff they're not supposed to and you trying to open the app is making it kinda panic, causing the F/C.. I've recently encountered one myself as well as other family members and ended up doing a complete wipe and reinstall of system to remove any trace & possibility of malware.
So once again, I recommend a complete factory reset and setup 'as new device' so Play store doesn't automatically reinstall the same offending app..

Just for information I've updated to Oreo and have not reset the phone yet. My stock texting app is still working and will send and receive photon attachments normally. I've always had message+ disabled and use the stock alternative message app which has about 18mb in storage compared to 32mb in the disabled message+app. Maybe Verizon isn't keeping their message+ app up to snuff. Only 2 cents worth.

I would factory reset phone, but i cant tell whats in my cloud since it crashes upon opening also and i have important messages i need to hang on to... Any insight on this?

What cloud are you using? Can you access it on your computer?

Also, use an app like SMS Backup and Restore to backup your texts if the phone lets you

Cloud? As in a backup? Can't you access that via a computer? Back in the day the Verizon backup system turned me off it 'cause every little thing was extra $.

Yeah, I don't have Verizon and I was just wondering what cloud they were using.

I would try to send a message using the other messaging app on your phone. See if you could send a picture attachment to your phone number.

I was going to say I don't use message + as I don't trust it's validity.

Swap over to using one of the more common apps or the one that LG provides.

I know you don't have much control over it being on there but you don't have to use it is more my point. YOu can disable the app in the settings so it won't launch or start any feature sets on next reboot. And then use any other app for the need.

Honestly I use the stock LG message app - but I'm thinking of making a switch too.

I have the same verizion crap on my device but the only piece I use is the my verizion app for account stuffs.

I like the message+ app alot better until it crapped out with the last update, they pushed an update for the message+ app but now it mostly spins and wont load so i have started using the default app which to me is like stone age comapred to the message+ app. Still having other issues like cloud doesnt work it just crashes etc. Hopefully Verizon will get their heads out of their asses soon and fix it

I agree that message+ has more bells and whistles than the LG app provides but it's interaction with the LG v20 was not up to what I wanted. Maybe Verizon focuses elsewhere?
