The default home screen on the LG V30 puts all app icons inside of a "rounded square" shape. If you don't like this look, it can be easily turned off.
- Go to Settings > Home screen
- Select Icon shape
- Choose Original
- Tap OK

Sadly with the Oreo update that has default support for changing icon shapes, the LG UI themes turn off this feature. It worked with Nougat and the themes. LG has made it near impossible to get a dark contrast background to conserve battery. Last time I purchase an LG phone. Thanks for the info on how to change them all the same.
