Lifting/Work Out Application

Hey guys, need some input. I went into the Market today trying to find a workout application that I could use to track and setup my work out schedule. I was looking for something that I could create custom work-outs and exercises with weight and rep tracking. Also wanted something to track my BMI, weight and Body Fat %. I looked and looked and couldn't find anything, soooo, my day job is .Net programmer and I thought I would create my own application.

You guys have any thoughts about what you would like to see in the application? Calendar, different things to track? I'm going to have to learn the development environment, and I haven't done Java since my college days, sooo it will take me a bit. But I'm bound and determined to do it. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I also want an app like this, all i personally need it to do is:

I have 4 workouts, they go mon, wed, fri, mon, thats workouts 1, 2, 3, 4. I just want to add them in on the days in a type of calender and on that day i can view them and add the amounts i lifted, then the next time i come round to that workout it will tell me my previous lift.

I work out in some fashion 7 days a week, weather it's body weight, bike riding, clubbells, kettlebells etc. If you could have it so that custom workouts could be created that would be great. Another great feature that I would gladly pay for is a built in timer with multiple time settings. For example, 60 seconds of work then 10 seconds of rest for 10 rounds, it would function like a gymboss if you are familiar with those timers. I would gladly pay for that.

I never thought about the timer thing. You thinking some type of buzzer for the different intervals?

So, after some thought about the app, I'm thinking of having 2 - 3 sections. One section containing a calendar in which you could click on a day and it would bring up the excercises for that day, and the second section would be a place for you to manage/create your excercises. The 3 section, I'm still pondering over is a section for you to create re-usable workouts. In which you could create a work out and then assign that workout to multiple days. Not sure which makes more sense?!?!?

Yea, it could use the phones vibrate or set a ringtone as the timer. I have a Gymboss that I use daily and it would be nice to have that function on my phone. a timer/stop watch with that functionality is used heavily in the Tabata Protocol style of workout.

I would pay big money (well not that big) for a good work out application (yet to find anything decent in the app market). The best application I have used was on my iphone (it is the only application that I miss) called ifitness, if you know anyone who has an iphone it's worth the investment to check it out. Not only did it allow you to create your own workouts, it allowed you to keep track of reps/weight (graphed it), keep notes for any of the exercises, it had an extensive exercise library that you could use to create your work out list (the library had videos and instructions on how to do the exercise) and as you completed the particular exercise you were doing it would check it off the list (it reset each day). Of course it kept your weight (graphed that too), your bmi, etc.... As you can see I get quite excited about it, the app had everything you need for the gym with a great UI.

Keep it basic to start. Have work outs that consist of exercise and sets of weights and reps. Either have a list of exercises or let the user input the name. A notes section per exercise would be nice too, same with notes for the day.

Example Tree:

Press Day
Incline BB Press
Set 1: weight/rep
Set 2: weight/rep
....
Notes
DB Flat Press
Set 1: weight/rep
Set 2: weight/rep
....
Notes

Also look to workout journals that are floating around the net for good ideas. Having a way to email or something would be cool too.

Good Luck.

I use a few different one for thse situations

GymBook
CalorieCounter (Mainly due to the barcode scanner)
CardioTrainer

Some features may overlap but they get the job done with whats needed.
