Limited Data

What does limited data mean? I was looking at T-Mobile, and I see there is unlimited talk and text, but some plans have limited data, such as 2GB. What do they mean by that???

It's simple :) limited means it will run out.

Once you reach the limit you will be unable to use anything that requires mobile data (web browsing, social media, play store, etc)

Can you tell us which plans you're looking at? Some of the plans have a sort of soft-limit - once you exceed the limit you can still get data access but at a greatly reduced speed.

Others (like the Simple Starter 2GB plan) do have a hard limit:
Simple Starter 2GB Plan
  • Get a single line with unlimited talk, text, and up to 2 GB of 4G LTE data.
  • No data overage charges, because there are no data overages
  • Unlimited talk and text
  • Data service suspended after 2GB

Yes, this is the one I saw. Thanks!

So, how much data does one use, for instance, if one browses the Internet and checks emails for two or three hours? Would that use up half of 2GB?

This plan competes very well with AT&T $45 1GB plan. So does Simple starter let you add on more LTE data?

Simple Choice allows you to upgrade your data for no cost if you don't like to be throttled, but you have to wait until the beginning of your new cycle to go back to your old data plan or you'll incur prorated charges.

I know what Simple Choice plans do. I was asking about this Simple Starter plan which is obviously different and has less perks.

It looks like your only options with Simple Starter are 500MB for $40/mo or 2GB for $45: http://www.t-mobile.com/offer/simple-starter-40-dollar-plan.html

And if you scroll down on that page, there are two FAQs that address on-demand data passes: once your data is used up you can add 1 day / 500MB of data for $5 or a 7-day 1GB pass for $10.

This actually sounds like a great deal for people like my wife who don't use a whole lot of data.... I might be making a switch soon!

Oh I'm sorry. Yeah, Simple Choice plans halt data when it's depleted but you can add more data like they said above.
