LinkedIn & Phone Contact List - Workaround Needed!!

Hi Guys,

So this is driving me nuts - and I'm not sure if I'm just missing something simple, or if there is no way to do what I want.

I have my LinkedIn account set-up on my Droid 4. Works great, all my connections are in my contact list and pictures are there. It appears that the Droid recognized LinkedIn contacts and merged them with existing contacts. Great.

Here's the problem - I have numerous LinkedIn connections that are in my phone's contact list - but there are no phone numbers or email addresses associated with them (becasue they did not provide this info in their LinkedIn account). I cannot edit those contacts to add that information in, so right now, I have over 100 duplicate contacts - LinkedIn contacts with a name/picture, and the same contact with the phone # but for some reason they wont merge.

As a workaround, I tried deleting the LinkedIn account in an effort to then put the contact in manually (with phone #, email address, etc) and was hoping it would re-sync. It didn't.

Does anyone know what I need to do to get this to work?

You should be able to "link" all those contacts. However, I would FIRST suggest you sign out of LinkedIn on your device and on your desktop make sure your contacts are correct and up to date.

Then, come back to your device, log into LinkedIn, then link multiple contacts. Doing so will clear up the duplicates.

bump - anyone know how to fix this? I can't get it to work. Tried deleting my LinkedIn account off the droid and reactivating it. No luck...

Welcome to the forum :)

It's 3 years since KBoy420 was last seen here, so it's unlikely you'll get an answer there I'm afraid. But what are you trying to do: do you want to hide these contacts (if they are in a separate group that will be easy), or link them to other contacts, or edit them?

I'm afraid I've no direct experience of this since I don't use LinkedIn (every one of my email addresses is on LinkedIn's "do not contact/do not send invitations" list since I got fed up with being spammed with invitations).

I don't think it's Linked In. Had same problem with Waze account, deleted account from phone and tons of duplicates disappeared. It appears to be in the more recent versions of android. Like the way they make the contacts function available to 3rd party apps can cause it off something. My linked in account only has one contact but on my phone with some contacts (only when doing search) the ate duplicated sometimes 20 times. Even the link function only allow 10 links. VERY strange.

My Samsung S4 just presented with a similar issue. For some reason my LinkedIn contacts(about 3900) (which were previously represented correctly in my contact manager) now have as many 20x each contact for a total of 51,900 contacts and it's overwhelming my phone/contact manager. I cant figure out how this started.

Sony Z3 Xperia and Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 exactly the same problem.
The linkedin app is blowing up the contacts list and also messages.

On Galaxy Tab I cleared linkedin app cache and removed Linkedin from contact synchronization and then removed the app.

With Sony XPeria I am now busy more than an hour to repair and contacts, messages and other apps are locking up and crashing.
Cleared cache of contacts app. Contacts list is then blank and you have to restart synchronization with google contacts. Reinstalled linkedin app but deselected synchronization (to make sure there are no traces of app). After reboot and 5 - 10 minutes waiting contacts list gets populated again.

Also message (SMS) from day before started showing up. For some reason the malfunctioning Linkedin app impacted showing them.

It is not the first time Linkedin causes duplicate contacts and it is embarasssing for a networking app to ruin contacts and can render your phone useless.

I can only recommend not integrating contacts with Linkedin or even better use the website from your phone or app.
The Linkedin app is great when it works but it is not worth the stress of having your phone and contact details messed up once or twice a year. Especially not if you depend on it commercially.

Same here on Xperia Z2, I started counting the duplicates for 1 contact and got bored when I past 120. LinkedIn broke my contacts and messaging apps. Took me hours to track down the problem. Unlinked linkedin from my contacts, cleared the data on contacts, restarted the phone and now all is well, apart from the fact I cant see linked in contacts.

I just checked my contacts on my Xperia Z4 and have the same issue. I created an account here just to nag about it. Linkedin now creates multiple (approx. 20 per contacts) contacts. The only way to avoid this seems to be not to install Linkedin, or uninstall it and restart the phone.

Worked. Deleted the LinkedIn Group from my Contact Manager and after synching, the regular contacts were back to normal numbers. Now that I know the cause, may retry and use the solution when necessary. LinkedIn better get this resolved soon.

I discovered the same problem with my Note 4 today. 16,000 LinkedIn contacts. I deleted them all and have disabled the LinkedIn Sync. Hopefully there will be a fix for this soon.

I can sympathize. I've seen that on a computer and it drives you nuts.

Where did the uploaded files go when it synced? It might be keeping the Linkedin files in another folder and just putting everything back in your contacts on the phone.
If you have a downloads folder - files can be in there and where you want them, making 2 copies of the file.

If all your contacts are in Google, you could log into the GMail home page on a computer and delete from there.
