List manager with online sync

Hi,

I've been looking for some time a good list manager with online sync. I is supposed to be LIST manager (like collections or things to take on a trip) and not TO DO manager, so the notifications are not necessary. For to do's I have "Got to do" and it's great.

What is important for me is so that this app would allow both online and offline browsing on my phone and computer, so that the files must be stored locally. What I mean by ONLINE is that it can be accessed via webpage WITHOUT ANY EXTERNAL application.


CloudList is almost what I've been looking for BUT it does not support offline browsing ... ehh.... For the lack of better solution I was thinking about 3 bananas, but list structures in 3 bananas are very limited. Any other ideas?

I'm one of the devs for cloudList. Could you describe a little bit more what you mean by offline browsing? Do you mean a PC application that doesn't require web access?

We're busy adding deadlines and drag n drop, but maybe this could be something we could whip up next. =)

What I mean is that I cannot OPEN cloudlist if I am not online at all. Let's assume I am at a shop and want to see my grocery list and there is a big network failure. With cloud list I will not be able to do so, as I will not be able to open my profile at all ...

And even if my profile is opened by the time the network failure occurs, I will not be able to see any notes to my item lists, as they are not synced with the device at all (at least this is how it seems). I HAVE TO be online to see them.

This is what I mean by offline list browsing.

CloudList actually stores all your lists locally so you should be able to access them regardless you have an internet connection or even a tower connection.

However, you are correct that your notes do not show up without a connection; We don't store that data locally as to reduce the size of the application.

As for logging into the application, that MAY require an internet connection, I'll have to get back to you on the detail. If you enable auto-login, than you should have no problem accessing your lists.

Can you do a test for me? Can you access your lists with airplane mode enabled? I believe airplane mode should turn off your tower and web connection.

I have already uninstalled cloudlist but I can tell you that I have done this test while I was playing with the app. I turned to airplane and tried to log in without any luck....

As for auto log in ... I haven't tested but still if I understand correctly it would only make sure I log in first time it finds the connection and the app would remian opened afterwards. But what if I turn on my phone and I need my lists immediately and there is no connection?

And I think that storing notes locally would also be a good idea regardless of the app size. I really cannot imagine a little bit of text being a problem in terms of disk space....


As for now I am thinking of creating a second account on toodledo for the purpose of list keeping and tailoring properly to suit my needs. I cannot use my current account for this purpose as it is tailored to work with my GTD system only and there is no place for my lists in there. Then I would install another instance of "Got to do" to manage it. Fortunately "Got to do" and "Got to do lite" install on the system separately, so I would use "Got to do" (paid version) for GTD system, and "Got to do lite" for list management.

I just found Checkmark and ListWizard this weekend so haven't played w/ them much yet and haven't tried anything re: offline at this time. They are both really new apps but look like they have good potential.

You should teally try Got to do + toodledo account. The application and webpage are not designed for list keeping, but rather for TO DO's still toodledo account can be easily modified to serve as place to keep your lists (hint: use folders and context to divide your lists into separate categories). Got to do app is also very customizable. So you can yurn off all the fancy things that were designed for GTD system, and leave only necessary menu's to manage lists.

The reason why I am hesitant to do so is that I already use Got to do for different purpoes, and In order to use it for list keeping I would have to have two separate instances of the program on my android. (unfortunately Got to do does not support multiple identities). As i have written above, it is dooable but I was looking for another option. Otherwise, I wouldn't think twice about using it for list keeping.

No, the autologin is persistent throughout the lifetime the application is installed on your phone. You can turn off your phone and power it back; it should still bring you directly to your lists.

Ok, so even if I can turn the login off it still does not solve offline notes browsing. In a way you can use category field for note taking but .... that's not as convenient as having offline notes.

BTW. I like the idea of having a password, and actually this was one of the things I liked about the cloudlist (until I discovered I have to be online to input it).

All in all great app. Keep up good work.
