Help Llama and Lollipop

I'm sure others have run into this but I'm not sure how to make Lollipop handle sounds the way I want it to yet. Before Lollipop, I used Llama to control my sound profiles so that when I was at home my volumes were at max, at night they switched to vibrate only, & when I was at work, my sounds were all only at vibrate. This all happened automatically through a combination of recognizing cell towers and time of day.

I just recently changed carriers (from Verizon to Sprint) & my new phone (LG G3) was just upgraded to Lollipop, & I see that Llama no longer works the same way - but I'm not sure how to make it work the way I want it to again. I've looked briefly at the sound settings in the phone but the controls are sparse compared to what Llama was doing for me.

How are others handling sound control without manually toggling between vibrate/silent/normal all the time? I like having things automated & I don't know how to achieve what I want again, with minimal effort on my part (ex: I don't want to have to learn Tasker).

Thanks!

Moved over here - have you tried emailing Llama?

Maybe it's a short term incompatibility that they're working on?
Yeah of course, that's the first thing I did when I noticed things weren't working right. I didn't even get a reply, and their web page has a post from November saying there are some issues with Lollipop & they don't know how to resolve them. There's also an update on their web page from a few days later saying they fixed something I don't quite understand, but it's still not working for me & it seems like everything has just gotten way more complicated. So... now I'm looking for other solutions.

It used to be true that I could have my phone on either mobile date or wifi & it would scan & find the nearby towers & make the appropriate profile changes. Now I'm totally confused whether I need to also keep location on for it to work? (I didn't have to on my previous phone & network).

The folks in the LG G3 forum know how to move you back to KitKat if that's interesting. Not sure if root is required, you'd have to ask them if interested.

I am rooted, Lollipop offered me nothing extra I wanted, disagreed with my apps, so I'm very happy back on KitKat.

Maybe doesn't appeal to you, but I'm just saying - an update that breaks my favorite apps is no update. I don't care who's fault or why, I just won't go backwards in capabilities when I don't have to by going backwards to KitKat.

What a tortured sentence. :D

I think I've resolved this issue but I'll do a little more testing. As long as I don't use LTE if I have to learn towers in a new area, & I keep location on, everything works.

If I don't keep Location on* it won't trigger my location-based events, & when I was trying to learn the towers for my Home & Work areas with Location off, it wouldn't find any (even though the dev's website says that you don't need to have data turned on OR GPS on to learn towers, this apparently changed with Lollipop).

*I thought I needed to always keep Location on for events to trigger, but now I'm not 100% sure and need to test this more. Location does seem to need to be on to find towers, though.

People have always had trouble with Llama and LTE, and there's a reason for it. LTE uses only a handful of cell ID's and recycles them through a given network. It's more entirely possible that you would get a cell ID at home, and then get the same one on the other side of the town (or on the other side of the country).

tl;dr LTE cell ID's are useless for Llama.
