Localization had little improvement. Why?

Hi! I'm from Brazil and I've realeased, some time ago, a pt-br app.
Now i've localized it to en-us and set en as the default language.
It's been one month and I had little improvement. I was expecting more, now the numbers are: 90% of new installs on my first target audience (Brazil). Why Brasil has the majority of installs? The pt version should not be targeting another countries that speak portuguese equally as well? And the english version should not have improved the overall installs?

I have doubts if the localization and distribution is working as should be!

Thanks in advance!

Hi Wagner! I remember reading a case study about a very popular quiz app that was first popularized in Spanish and then tried to break the norther American market in English. Americans were downloading the app in Spanish, but the English version had very little success! Then they made minor adjustments that made it more suitable to the market, like including fewer football references and changing cm to inches. Perhaps you also need to make those adjustments to make your app more appropriate for the audience.
