Help location and marshmallow

Will I be able to use location(GPS) with my marshmallow when taking a long trip or is it limited to the point where it is not useful?
How would you set the phone when on the road for an extended time and need directions. I don't want to over heat it.
I am low level user so please consider that.

I would keep it out of the sun shining thru the windshield or buy a phone holder that clips to your dash air conditioning vent so cold air blows on the back of phone or do both.

I was hoping in Marshmallow, to use power saver like Lollipop where you could use grayscale without blocking too many other features.
I think this Marshmallow blocks more features but am not sure about Location(GPS).

If traveling the 600 miles, and in power saving mode,I would like to use the GPS and receive calls.
Can this be done if power saver is used for grayscale I think the least harmful one in power saving?
