Lock Google Search bar while moving icons on grid?

Hi'
Maybe my fingers are too big, or maybe I just haven't gotten the technique down just yet; but when I am moving icons around on the Nova Launcher screen, and I get up near the top where my Google search bar resides, I often end up pushing an icon up too far and the Google search bar drops down. This messes up the array on the page, and frustrates me.

It would be great to lock the Google search bar while I'm moving icons about on the grid.
Is there a way to do this? Or maybe I should just move the Google search bar to another screen to get it out of the way? I really don't use it all that much.

Thanks
FW

Edit: Just after posting, I found that I had subgrid positioning turned on. That allowed me to move icons closer to the Google search bar. So now I have turned it off. I'll see how this works.

I just started putzing with Nova Launcher after running Next Launcher for the longest time. I think I'm liking it :)
I don't use the Google search bar, but hope your findings help ya!

An alternate approach …

I have used Nova Launcher Prime for years. (Droid X, Droid Maxx, Droid Turbo, Droid Turbo 2, Moto Z2 Force)

I always found the search bar to be in the way. I have the search bar turned off by selecting Google voice in the Nova Search bar option.

I simply talk to my phone … like … "OK Google. Is Market Basket in Swanzey New Hampshire open?"

It displays the answer and announces it along with the opening/closing times for today and the current status.
