Help Lock screen comes back up after pressing sleep button

Lurker
Hi, I have a very strange problem on my Samsung Galaxy S5. When I press the sleep button to lock the phone, instead of sleeping, the phone screen sometimes would turn back on immediately after the black screen, showing the lock screen, then sleeps after it times out. If I press sleep again, it either sleeps, or loops again.

It happens way too often, to a point where I have to ask for help here. I searched and couldn't find anyone having the same issue as me. Can someone teach me how to pinpoint the cause of this problem? Thank you.

I'm on kitkat, no root.

Hello and welcome to the forums. The problem is natural . you need to program the lock screen to terminate quickly do this from settings>scroll to lock screen>screen security ..... Then selection of immediately

Hi, but there's no "immediately" option for me to select from. I looked elsewhere in my settings and couldn't find anything similar to that.

What is your settings

I think I know what you mean by locking the phone immediately. I get that option only when I set it to unlock with a pattern or fingerprint, so that you can choose to have to the phone stay unlocked for a certain amount of time. But my setting is just a swipe with no security.

I posted the URL to see if you have the same settings as it has and if you have lock automatic turned on

check settings-->Display-->Daydream and see if it's on. turn it off if it is. it's supposed to only keep the screen lit when plugged in but it does randomly turn it on when it's not supposed to.

the option might also be in Display-->display timeout--Daydream.

sticky power button? accidentally tripping the home key? the only times other than Daydream that I notice the screen blinking on/off at random are when it's plugged into the charger (which isn't the one supplied with the phone--it was faulty out of the box, got so hot I couldn't touch it and I thought it was a fire hazard so I use my old BlackBerry charger) but never in my pocket.

Just to be sure, when you say you are pressing the sleep button, you are pressing the physical power button?

yes, the power button. The phone goes to sleep for a 1-2 seconds, then comes back on the lock screen. It doesn't always happen, but happens too often it's annoying me. :(

Do you have a cover on it by chance?

I know my Note has a "magnetic" cover that flips back on itself and when it's open, if I slide it a certain way the darn thing will sleep and then unlock. It bugs the bejeezus outta me, so I can sympathize.

No, I'm not using any cover, case or screen protector. Back then I used to have apps like Slidelock, Echo Notification Lockscreen, Screen Off and Lock, thought they were causing the problem. But after uninstalling those the problem is still there.

If you open menu>settings>apps and click on the running tab, do you see anything that looks out of the ordinary? If there's not some sort of extra screen security, then i'm going to have to think it's either a glitch that a factory reset might fix or you have a sticky/dirty/loose contact in the hardware.

I tried stopping a lot apps already, I even uninstalled many of the old apps. Factory reset is my last resort.

Seeing as how you're not rooted, a factory reset will be a true reset. If that doesn't fix it, it's a hardware problem.
