Help Lock screen, home and power button not working and cannot receive calls

Hi my Samsung Galaxy S froze on me last night and then like partially rebooted itself or something which caused my lock screen, power and home buttons to stop working and i can't receive any incoming calls. I looked all over the net for a solution but to me, it's really confusing. I know that i need to root my phone but all the tutorials i followed weren't very helpful or would not work for my phone so please, i really need some help! How do i fix the problem or root my phone so that I can fix the problem without having to reset my phone to the factory settings? I know that i need to just upgrade my phone but i can't afford to right now so i just want my phone fixed. Thanks!
