Lock screen wallpaper darker than home screen

Hi,
I recently got the Xperia XZ Premium and have noticed that my lock screen wallpaper is darker than my home screen, even though it is the same image. Any ideas as to the reason for this? I have attached a screen shot to clarify, just in case.

I think they just make it like that so your clock widget and any other notifications on your lock screen appear more prominently and are easier to read.

It's like that on my Essential PH-1, and was on my Moto X Pure as well.

Cool, so it's just a built in feature for saving battery life and making notifications stand out? I'm just glad it's not a device issue
