Locked out of S3

Lurker
My old S3 is not in service anymore, and I forgot the pattern and pin. I tried doing a factory reset by holding the volume up, home, and power buttons but it isn't working, I think the home button may be broken. Is there any possible way for me to get into this phone, or is it a shiny brick at this point?

What's going on that you think the Home button is broken? When you press on it does it feel like it's still depressing and returning like it normally used to? Also, just in case, you did make sure the battery was charged up too? You might also want to try getting into Recovery Mode with the power adapter plugged in. If your S3 has been sitting around completely dormant for a long period of time the battery could just be completely dead.

Does it say starting recovery in blue text in the upper right hand corner? If it does make sure you are releasing the buttons immediately otherwise it won't actually boot into recovery.

I think the home button might be broken because when the phone is locked, pressing it does not turn the screen on, I have to use the power button. But except for that it feels normal and presses normally. Had the battery charged to about 50%. It doesn't show recovery mode in blue text, it just boots up normally every time.

Try taking off the back cover and removing the battery. Leave it out for a couple of minutes, put it back in, and then try to boot up into Recovery Mode again.
