Help Locking screen while in hangouts?

I am wondering if there is a way to lock the screen while in hangouts or even while watching videos. My daughter is only 6 months old and she cant keep her hands off the screen, so she keeps interupting her videos or chats with her grandparents.
Is it possible?

You wish to basically, render the screen unresponsive whilst in hangouts or while watching a video correct? Not sure if I follow you exactly so forgive me
