Help Lollipop. Insufficient space to download (512mb free)

Is there a known issue with it reporting no space when there is plenty?

I've cleared out cache with AppMgrIII, rebooted, reinstalled google play app/services.

Occasionally it will deem fit to install an app, but usually just say no.

No rhyme or reason, as it doesn't even say how much space it needs. Just says "Insufficient space".

Would be helpful if it at least gave a number vs how much it thinks it has

Storage truth doesn't tell me anything useful. Suspect it doesn't like lollipop 5.0.2

Found I was able to install some stuff if I freed up 1GB, but that seems a bit mental. Also having to fight new lollipop "feature" where it installs updates back to device memory, ignoring previous SD settings. Thanks Google!

Install to sd was discontinued after Gingerbread, some apps still have it for legacy support. It's pretty useless because just the code portion gets moved, the rest stays in your /data partition - unless you're using a root-only mod to move all of it.

And that's what Storage Truth is trying to show you - the condition of your /data area - and I can assure you that it works just fine with Lollipop. As it said in the Play Store, tap each line for more information. Storage Truth doesn't show what happens with many root mods for moving to the sd card, but may be useful in helping to decide if you want to do that.

Lollipop isn't broken installing to /data - it's been that way for years on Android.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

PS - you didn't mention if you wiped the cache partition from recovery - that's not something that you do from an app, it's different.
