Long press of some letters changes language

When typing if some letters are held down too long, the typed character changes to another language, for example, n changes to the French variation with a cedilla, which is occasionally annoying. I have chosen English and no other languages and "multilingual" is greyed out, yet "Gboard" is still labeled as "multilingual." How do I fix this, have spent hours. Thanks for help.

Easy, just only download English as your own word, but yeah it is a default thing it does. Switch over to other keyboards too. (I.E. Grammarly) That only has English on it.

Have you tried clearing the data and cache for the Gboard app, in-case there's something funky going on with it? .

I sometimes use Gboard occasionally myself, which is i set for multilingual, for English(UK) and Chinese(Simplified characters). It never shows any "French variation with a cedilla" or whatever. When I hold down it types the character in the top right of the key. As shown in this screen-shot.

Usually I use Switftkey, and I definitely recommend it.

Thanks all for the info. I have increased the long press delay to max and that's a good work-around. I now realize changing the language is a default but odd it happens with only English specified. Will try a new keyboard eventually. Thanks again.
