That matches the black background colour of BattStat, and if possible links to it to avoid there being a gap there.

Option 2. a background that has greyish at the bottom and a darker colour at the top (again, to match the black background to battstat) at 2 rows each.

Try the skin "Froyo" (used to be "Hangover") and set the transparency to 70ish percent. Not exactly what you're looking for, but it might be close.
