Looking for a good Calender App

New to the message board here, so I apologize if I'm dumb about things.

I don't like the stock calender for the Droid 2, and am wondering if anyone can recommend a good calender app. I have an iPod touch and I like the calender on there (bright, bubbly, and easier to see from the monthly view when you have an event on a specific day).

There are many free calendars on the market...all depends what you are looking for. I like Jorte for the functionality, if not for the aesthetics. The month and week views are outstanding, and it integrates with Google Tasks (manually at this point, but I assume auto-sync is coming).

I am with Jim on this one, and I am really picky on my calendar apps! The only thing I might ask, Jim, is can you read my post about Jorte not automatically syncing on the phone if you put an event in Google Calendar online or in OUtlook? I am needing to go into the default calendar and hit "refresh" first.

Please check out my post from today with more details....


Otherwise, I do like the app.

Mine works fine. Just tested it via Google Calendar and Outlook (have to wait until Outlook syncs with Google Calendar, but you know that :) ).

Jorte is a good one. I also like (and prefer) the calendar app on Launcher Pro Plus. I have also used Pure Calendar but I had some bad syncing issues. All of these are scrollable on applicable homes btw
 
Glad to hear it. The developer is amazing. He is very open to hear suggestions and if there is a problem he is very quick to take care of it. The resizable widget feature is something I use a lot more than I thought I would. As good as he has done with no financial backing I can't wait to see what he is able to come up with now that there is some cash flowing in.

so frustrating! Why am I needing to go in and Refresh my default calendar on my phone in order for Jorte to recognize any added events in Outlook or Google Calendar?

As far as I can tell, all my settings are correct. This only seems to be on the Jorte end, when changes have been made on one of my other calendars. I would be less frustrated if Jorte at least had a "Refresh" option, so that I did not need to go into my default calendar to do this!!!!

Does Launcher Pro Plus sync with Google Tasks like Jorte does?

i am too frustrated with this Jorte issue to think I will keep this app much longer.

Not a technical Bostonian. From Claremont, NH and a lifelong Sox fan.

Gtasks does not sync with lpp as far as I can tell. With that one hiccup I still prefer lpp over others. Frederico will eventually add that feature if he is asked to.

I assume you've tried the usual steps of rebooting, uninstalling/reinstalling Jorte, etc.

It works fine for me, as does LPP.

Hope you figure it out,

Rebooting the Droid you mean?

Maybe there is a setting I am missing? Worked ok before so something must have happened.

FYI, I uninstalled Jorte, then reinstalled. Added an event in Outlook, then looked on Google Calendar online and the appt was there. Then looked on my device and it was not in my default calendar or Jorte over an hour later. What the ????????
 
I'd check the settings in Accounts&Sync to make sure that both Background data and Auto-Sync are on, and that under Google, the Calendar is set to sync.

Done, done and done! So, that is not the issue. Any other thoughts?

Just went back to the dafault calendar, hit refresh, and it showed up in default calendar and Jorte. But again, having to do this to get appts to show up is way too cumbersome!
 
Does anyone know if you can send calendar invites with the native calendar application or is there an app for that?
I'm not using an exchange server FYI

Given that you are having these problems, you might want to delete the Calendar storage and re-sync. I'm assuming you have your calendar data all safely backed up (either Outlook or Google).

That's what I'd do (before giving up :) :) :) )

Hmmm...again....newbie question. How do I go about deleting the Calendar storage? And what do I need to do to make sure I do not lose all my info?

(FYI, I have my appts in Outlook and Google calendar right now).

Do you think such a drastic step is necessary for this issue? Again, it is not like the appts won't show up at all in Jorte, I just need to refresh the default calendar first (pain to do, though).

To delete the Calendar Storage, go to any home screen, press Menu->Settings->Applications->Manage Applications (now you will have to wait for a few minutes while the system builds the list of applications)->Calendar Storage->Clear Data.

I would close Outlook and backup your outlook .pst file. You can also export from Google calendar.

It's almost certain that you won't lose your data by resyncing your phone, but I like to mention it; backing up doesn't take long.

It's not really a drastic step, just telling the phone to forget all the calendar info it has and to resync with Google Calendar. The reason we do this is in case the calendar storage on your phone has somehow become corrupted.

One more question, when you enter a new item into Google on your PC, does it show up in the default calendar, or do you have to refresh it? If it doesn't, then you have a default calendar issue or a syncing issue, not a Jorte issue.

If deleting calendar storage on the phone doesn't solve the problem, I would contact the Jorte developer to see if he/she has any ideas.

I am used to backing up Outlook by keeping it open, choosing Import/Export>Export to a File>naming the .pst file and throwing it on my desktop. Will this work?

Yes, if they aren't showing up in either calendar, I would definitely delete Calendar Storage; hopefully, everything will start working the way it's supposed to when you do that.

Another question: do Contacts update automatically when you change them on your PC? If nothing is updating correctly, then there might be another problem on the phone (but I can't imagine what it might be).
