Looking for a Verizon world phone

I'm looking for a phone that I can use on the Verizon network in the US (namely Page Plus) and that also comes with an unlocked SIM slot so I can use it overseas. Can anyone give some suggestions? I'm new to the Android world and I've been overwhelmed by the amount of Android phones available on the market, but I did notice that there doesn't seem to be many Android "world phones". I've found the HTC Incredible 2 and the Droid 3--any opinions on those phones?

I think both the Inc 2 and Droid 3 are really good phones. My wife has the Inc 2 and I had the Droid 3 for work. Both are pretty reliable but I have yet to take them on an international trip. I like the build quality of the Droid 3 and especially the keyboard but it's kinda wide. The Inc 2 has good build quality too but my wife's Inc 2 is pretty scratched up and the charging port is starting to break. But that might be my wife's fault. haha.

The Droid Pro is the other global phone that I'd like to suggest but both the D3 and Inc 2 are better, IMO.

Edit: Welcome to the forums! :)

Hey there newcomer! Just so you know I moved your thread to the Verizon forum to get some more eyes on it. Welcome aboard :)

Thanks for moving the topic to a better place :)

I like the Incredible's design (probably the Sense UI :P) but I guess I'll have to decide whether I want to try a QWERTY keyboard. Are there any other phone choices besides the three mentioned?

Also, a question about stability. How safe is it to buy a refurbished Android phone on eBay? Is there a bigger chance of bugs, crashes, etc.? Should I get a new one, just to be safe?

I think that's all that's worth mentioning. I've only bought a used phone from Ebay once but as with anything on Ebay...you just have to choose the buyer with a lot of positive feedback. Have you tried swappa? I haven't used that site myself but heard good things about it.

The Droid 4 is supposed to be the first 4G LTE phone that works internationally. It isn't capable yet (well not legitimately thru VZW), but it DOES have a GSM radio that VZW plans to unlock to non-AT&T bands at some point.

As far as buying from ebay, like stated above, you need to pick the seller wisely. One thing to look for (to avoid bugs) is if it has been rooted and/or modded. Some buyers like that since they are buying something they know works with certain ROMs or mods, but if you are not planning to mod it, I would avoid them since they can be buggy if the seller never fully restored it back to stock.

Well I think once I've gone deep enough in Android I'll probably start playing around with rooting and whatnot.:p

I'm reading comparison reviews on the Incredible and Droid 3 and now I'm becoming more and more undecided. Can anyone give a real world comparison between these two phones? Like speed, screen clarity in sunlight, durability, etc...

Also, will an unlocked phone work on the GSM bands here in the US? Or is it strictly overseas?

I owned the inc 2 for a year. I would say its one of the most stable 3G phones verizon has in their lineup. Its got great specs for its price (though no longer the most up to date), and it was snappy. It has great battery life that consistently lasted the day. Screen isnt great in the sunlight, but i think only qHDs are. I was very happy with it until i started missing a qwerty. I would recommend it if you dont care for the latest and greatest.

Phones will only work on US GSM bands if it has a GSM radio. Only world phones will have them. Im not sure if someone has found a way to get them to work on US GSM bands, but if so, i havent heard about it.

Thanks, I think I might go for the Incredible 2 because I don't really need a qwerty keyboard and I read that the camera on the Droid 3 isn't great.

The Inc 2 and Droid 3 are world phones, no? Or is their GSM radio incompatible with the US GSM bands? I've heard of the GEVEY sim unlock for the iPhone 4S, which apparently will let you use both CDMA and GSM networks in the US, as well as overseas. I'm not sure if that's true though...

Inc 2 IS a world phone, but that doesn't mean that it works on US GSM Bands. In fact, VZW allows all BUT US GSM bands on their world phones. This is so you don't buy their phone off contract and go to another carrier. To my knowledge, there isn't an unlock that bypasses this.

Being a world phone means that you can use the phone on international GSM bands, not US ones
