Root Looking for a way to make desktop icons transparent

Currently using Nova with a transparent icon pack, which is working for now but is not exactly what I'm looking for. I don't want an icon pack. I actually want the default icons to just be see-through (like the Google Search bar in KitKat) so I can enjoy my wallpapers.
Other option I saw was "Transparency Launcher" which was really just a widget that pretends to be an app shortcut. Again, not what I'm looking for.
I just find it hard to believe that there's no launcher with this support, or at least an Xposed module. I'm even willing to change ROMs if something's got it built in. Anyone seen anything like this?

Don't know the answer to your question as I haven't seen what you are looking for, but if the main point is to see your wallpaper most of the time, you could put all your icons in folders on your dock tray. Unless you need a very large number of icons, this works very well.

You could also use something like Wave Launcher or Lazy Swipe to keep icons off your home screen except when you need to launch an app. There are similar multi-tasking tools in many ROMS like App Bar, PIE, etc, any of which might be useful.

Just a couple of thoughts. Not pushing anything or trying to talk you out of what you want.
