Looking for app that that can GPS track non-smart phones

Hello,

I'm looking for an app that can GPS track non-smart phones. The app Find My Friends appeared to fill this need, as its page on Google Play says: "Just send non-smart phone users an invite via text. Once they reply with a 'yes' their icon will appear on the app’s map." See https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fsp.android.friendlocator

But this appears to be incorrect. The FAQ says you can only connect with those who have the app installed on their phone. If it exists, could someone please recommend an app that allows tracking of non-smart phones.

Thanks,
Bill

This would only be possible if the dumbphone was reporting it's location to somewhere via internet, or if it had an app on it that would reply to location requests from a trusted source. So by definition there must be something installed on the other phone for this to be possible.

And of course most dumbphones don't have GPS in first place.

The network knows the approximate location of a phone (as it knows what cell the phone is in), but unless you can convince them that you are police or security services and have a warrant they aren't going to give you access to that.

In short, sorry but this will only be possible if there is an app that can be installed on the other phone, which will be a tiny market compared to smartphones so less likely someone has done it.

What you say makes sense, although apparently the Find My Friends app was able to do it, at least in an earlier version. The device at issue does have GPS, in fact it is a GPS tracker. It can send and receive calls and text messages, but I can't install any apps on it. The manufacturer has an app I can download to my Android phone to see the tracker's location, but the manufacturer's app is buggy. That's why I'm looking for another app.

OK, this tells us that that device does have a way of reporting its location, but I expect it is proprietary. There won't be a generic solution that works for all dumbphones anyway, so my feeling is that for anyone to be able to suggest an alternative to the manufacturer's app we'll need to know who the manufacturer is, possibly what model the device is, because we'll need to find something that can interact with that manufacturer's system.

Here is the product: http://www.lk-gps.com/Product/068721748.html
Here is the manufacturer's app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fw.lhyk&hl=en

If this is compatible with any other tracking app, please let me know. The tracker appears to be working to some extent, but not the Android app. I can send an SMS message "Where" and it replies with a Google Maps link to its correct location. But the app is not working correctly. Sometimes it shows the correct location but more often it is way off.

Thanks,
Bill
