Looking for good live music record app

When recording live music the sound is always overdriven to the point it's almost unrecognizable. I've tried a few different ones with the same result.

Currently I had ASR and RecForg. I set the record level as low as possibe or use auto level and it just never sounds right. I am not looking for studio quality, just kind of like when we used to take a cassette player and record live. That's as good a quality as I would hope for.

Are there any apps that can pull this off or any other tips?

Are you talking about live concerts with like huge PA systems and 120dB sound pressure levels? It's probably because it's a telephone mic, and it's just completely overloaded, most likely software alone can't fix that. Maybe different phones perform differently?

Back in the day some of the more expensive cassette recorders were pretty good for this kind of thing, on the other hand many of the cheapo ones were awful.
