Looking for honest opinions!

Hi, just signed up here today, about to upgrade from iPhone 3Gs to HTC one x and am after some honest views from all you owners!
Not got any experience with Android and the more i read the less sure i am about things.......reassurance needed that i'm about to make the right choice!

Welcome to Android Forums peanutlovery.:)

I can't speak to it being the right choice for you or even recommend the One X. I will say that if you enjoy a customized experience from your smartphone then you will enjoy Android even without rooting (I'm making an educated guess that's one of the things giving you pause). Also, rest assured that there are many friendly folks here that will do what we can as fellow enthusiasts to make sure you get all that you need or want out of your Android phone.

So again, welcome to AF.

Welcome to AF peanutlovery (love the username)! :)

I'll admit the phone does have it's quirks, but what phone doesn't? If you've any specific questions or stuff you'd like cleared up before you make the jump, ask away, we'll do all we can to assist. As a start, you might want to have a scan through here: http://androidforums.com/htc-one-x-xl/530002-iphone-converts.html

That may answer some of your questions?

I personally love my One X, but then I've been using Android handsets for a couple of years and I've never used an iPhone so no idea how terrifying the jump actually is. :p

Welcome! As a former iPhone 3G guy, my jump to Android was head first. What brought me in was the customizability and lack of apple in it. Don't get me wrong, apple makes some great products but their phones lack something...character maybe. As mentioned, its always personal preference but I prefer android.

Ask questions, search and when you are ready to purchase, you will feel a little better.

Again, welcome!

Thanks for the welcome. Your right by saying that one of the things thats attractive about android is the fact i can make my phone my own with customizing how i want (i'm a big nonsense gadget fan!!).
I think i've read too many reviews about the One x and have put myself slightly off it, not sure coming on here was a good idea reading what others have said ie poorly located power switch leading to pocket restarts! scratched camera lenses, cracked bodies!
Anyway i'm not too fussed about the switch from iPhone, just need a bit of info about the phone itself, plus and minus points.....i've disgarded the samsung s3 as i feel the build quality is better on the one x.....just need someone to say..GO ON JUST DO IT...haha

Cheers

Oh an are some andriod apps as 'quirky' as people complain about?

GO ON JUST DO IT;)

Remember that this is primarily a support forum so most times folks show up, they are asking about a problem. The folks with problems are more than likely far outnumbered by folks that have no problem, and therefor don't contribute here. Others create their own problems because they aren't proactive as you are and don't do a little research before they buy and have unrealistic expectations or they use a task killer(short answer, don't, long answer, don't use a task killer:D).

El Presidente who responded above was an early adopter IIRC and wrote up a very nice review when he got his X. I'll see if I can find it and post a link here for you.

Unforgiven is right, as a place for answers goes, this is it and it isnt it. Keep in mind that every phone you look at is going to have a batch of issues. If you are not careful and allow something to scratch your camera, it's going to happen. Maybe, as the OP from the restart issue mentioned, if you are wearing skinny tight jeans, your power button will get pressed. Personally, I feel as though the power button is a little more difficult to press, which I like because I am not accidentally hitting it.

If you do not take care of your phone and leave it naked, you will scratch it, whether you are using an iPhone, windows phone or android..it happens. That's why cases and screen protectors were made. Nothing is indestructible but when it comes to a great phone, the One X is in that arena.

My battery lasts 24+ hours at moderate use, I have never had an accidental restart, my camera, screen and back are scratch free (thank you ZAGG and Otterbox) and my mics all work perfectly. As for sketchy apps, yes, nothing is perfect, even the Apple App store has apps that are supposed to do something but don't always work, but most devs on the market, are excited to get feedback and attempt to fix issues so that they get better ratings. That's the nature of the beast.

Go on, get yourself some Android Candy :)

Thanks Unforgiven....i'll do it!! I cant upgrade yet till the 8th Sept so still got time to make the right choice, although i think i'm on the right track. I'll just have to sort out my music, photos etc......well its either that or wait for the new iPhone but i think that will be over hyped and over priced.....plus i fancy a big screen and decent camera! If you can find that review that would be great, also anybody know of a decent music dock for the one x?

Not a huge dock fan so I have not used them BUT I highly recommend DoubleTwist as your music player. It allows you to upload iTunes and WMP music to your phone as well as any photos on your computer. The integration is almost endless :)

Re the power button in your pocket thing, I can honestly say I don't think that's ever happened to me.

A lot of the software issues have been ironed out and HTC have been pretty quick to iron out a lot of the flaws that were there on the initial release.

I can say I have both an iPhone and a One X. I really detest the iPhone as it is all apple or nothing. I am forced to use it now exclusively as my HOX is in for repair for the MIC. When I would call ppl or they would call me i was not easily understandable. That is the only issue i have had and love the phone. That is why i am going through withdrawals from my HOX. My iPhone has also never had an issue but i would take my HOX hands down over it. This due to the fact that I can use whatever with my HOX, not so much with my iPhone (iTunes). I also find the HOX more powerful and faster than my iPhone and also bigger and easier to read and type on. If you have any questions on anything with respect to my iPhone and HOX comparisons.

I honestly might still go back to iPhone. I've had the one x for about a month now and its okay. I like the customization and the great screen and most of all it's not made by apple. I really hate apple as a company and I am a bit tired of the stale looking os, but I'm unsure if it's worth dealing with the issues I have with android and this phone. Build quality is good on the hox but still not as solid as iPhones. Android has come a long ways since the last time I attemptedthe switch but I still don't think it's quite there yet. IPhones just work better. They are more dependable and the os while stale as hell it is also rock solid. Android crashes. I have had iPhones for years and never had issues at all. I'm currently on my third one x. The apps have gotten better but are all crap in comparison to the iPhone versions. You will never say boy do I like this android version of an app more, its just not gonna happen. Choice is good but is also a bad thing. There are tons of SMS apps and browsers to choose from but none of them work half as well as the stock ones on iPhone. Updates......nobody is ever really sure when your ever gonna get that next update, iPhones all get their updates as soon as apple releases them. One thing that I also hate is that you have to really put effort into making android phones work right. Adjust all your settings, remember to turn off stuff your not using like WiFi and Bluetooth just to get mediocre battery life still. My reception is generally garbage as well, I actually end up with 0 signal in a lot of places that I get reception fine with an iPhone. I have to always turn off then turn back on my WiFi just to trick it to work. BtwI'm coming from an iPhone4 not a 4s and I still can't honestly say the hox os better. With everything ilisted plus a bunch of things I didn't list I still may keep this phone It's just much harder to deal with so many silly problems that I have never had to deal with. I like android but I want to love it and they make it really hard to do so.

I actually made the same switch about 3 months ago and I have never looked back! The battery life is way better on the HOX, and I'd say this phone is at least 3x as fast in the UI as my iPhone was.

Hi and welcome! I went from an iPhone 4S to the One X and I love it! I am so glad that I got it and unless Apple roll out some thing pretty damn special with the iPhone 5, I won't be going back. I have had no issues with the phone other than a wi-fi issue when I first got it but that wasn't the phone, it was my router. Still love my phone as much as when I first got it.

The EVO 4G LTE is better, Imo. But with both versions, put a helmet on before you begin using your htc, as your mind will be blown.
