Looking for replacement Hard Drive for a HP Pavilion 1580se

I have a similar post up over on Notebook forums but after 150 views I haven't gotten an answer. Maybe you folks can help?

Everywhere I look the recommended hard drive for my old computer is out of stock. What is the latest drive this old workhorse can take. Would a 1TB drive work with it? I'm running Windows Vista as the OS. Any advice would be appreciated.

According to the HP PartSurfer website just about all the parts to this venerable old machine are no longer supplied. I am at a complete loss on what to do. I was able to get a replacement AC adapter from Rakuten.com but I'm getting continual warnings about an imminent hard drive failure ever time I boot the machine up. I need a new hard drive as soon as possible.

The websites I did find with a replacement drive want at least $139 for 80GB. I think that's nuts when a 1TB internal drive can be had for $75.

I would suggest trying a hybrid drive from segate to get a better performance without having to buy an ssd

I have an HP also that is starting to make strange noises. I have had trouble since the beginning with this machine. It is a slimline Pavillion. I think I will have to buy another computer when the hard drive finally goes.

I would suggest a refurbished model Because they send it back to the factory when they don't sell and then they are rebuilt and given new and better parts and sold for a loss making it possible to get a better laptop cheaper refurbished compared to a new one at the same price
