Lookout - Vzn Advices Against It?

I have owned a Droid X for almost a year now and have used LookOut as a just in case app. I always wanted to be safer than sorry but I recently heard from my cousin that the LookOut security app is a waste? I wasn't able to find any recent discussions on LookOut using the search field and so wanted to ask in a new forum.

I used it but it didnt benifit me so i removed it as:
1. Android is basically noob linux and therefore is a very secure OS
2. People just dont code viruses for Linux/Android. Would you rather go for Microsofts 86.1% market stake or Linux's 5.1%?

3. There are better apps for Lookouts other features
(Titanium Backup, Where's my droid, etc)

As long as there are apps downloaded there will be a risk, especially if you're downloaded apps not from the Google market or amazon appstore, of course there were 50 or so malicious apps that made it into the Google market.

There is nothing wrong with lookout, it doesn't take up a significant amount of resources, so if it makes you feel better, keep it.

I use Lookout for its backup feature. I think virus is very low with Android as stated by forever but you can get melwares if you download random apps. An example would be one called beautiful japanese girls wallpaper that has access to read/write access to your contact list/sends sms/make phone calls/internet/phone state identity etc..anyways, you can imagine what those access might be for

Lookout for me is a failsafe, I'm sure for most of us our lives are on our phones. When it's rooted you can change the phone passwork, remotely wipe your phone, even annoy the people with your phone by making it scream.

What does lookout do other than waste resources?
Seekdroid is the same thing...99 cents and no AV stuff.

Regarding your thread title, I haven't heard anything about Verizon advising for or against Lookout, but I certainly wouldn't pay attention if they did. Their store reps tend to not know much about Android, although there are shining exceptions.
