Loss of separate Google search and Google Chrome history

After the last update to Android 8 on my Zenfone 3 Zoom I'm missing a feature I've always really liked in Android. That was the separate Google Chrome and searching from the Android search bar on my home page, each with their own history. Now all the searches I conduct in the search bar open in Chrome and I can't switch back and forth between the two. I really miss this and I wonder if there is a way to get it back?

Seems that Google has cobbled together search history. That falls under user's privacy to make it more manageable to whomever is gathering your information.
