does anyone have any tips on recovering photos from my micro SD?

any idea what happened?

can I determine if the card failed or if my incredible wiped data

try this, courtesy of yahoo answers

1. Do not save any new file to memory card.
2. Connect your card to computer using a card reader. You should see memory card shown as a drive letter (like H:) in Windows Explorer.
3. Download recover software, recommended one is asoftech photo recovery (simply because i was using it and it worked)
Photo Recovery: Restore your lost photo
4. Install and open asoftech photo recovery, select your memory drive, and click 'Start' button.

I don't have any idea but always back up data if it's important -- especially on mobile devices which are easily lost/stolen/damaged/etc.

yea it was my wife's phone should have known better

is it possible an app in the market deleted the pics folder?

I had this happen to me a month or so ago. I had a message that said my card was corrupted.

I plugged it into my PC and ran Disk checker on it. Then my card would read but the DCIM folder was gone. I had a FOUND.001 folder full of .chk files. I used a program to rename them all to .jpg and viola' My photos were back.

The big question is can you read your card on the computer?

In Unix, you list the directories in the shell for hidden files. The files might be moved to a .501 temp or .Trash directory. Check the how space is used using a df command.

Also, there are command-line tools that are good for disaster recovery even if the files are not visible or the partition is hosed. It is called Photorec. Even if the files have been erase, it will read sector by sector and recover the file based on the meta-headers. You won't get the file name but you will get the files.

Google it. Photorec
