LOST.DIR recovery problems

I am having problems with LOST.DIR files and attempting to recover files in it.

Recuva in Windows does not always work. I copy the SD Card to Windows and try to scan and fix problems with it but not always with much success.

I tried EaseUS Data Recovery but to recover more than 500 MB it is a paid product and the free one has limitations.

I recorded a show in 2016 and ended up with a LOST.DIR file of 4 GB plus as well as a number of smaller files up to 600MB. These files are now in Windows 10. I partially recovered some recordings a while ago but the condition was not good at all (I'm not sure exactly how) but I am still left with this big file. This is a pity as this problem of LOST.DIR continues...

Does anyone have any advice of free software that can recover small files and those above 4GB (if this is possible), even if they have been copied to Windows. There is no point in my paying for an application if I can't properly recover the data (which are video recordings and photos) and it would be better to do some testing of any new applications first.

Has anyone actually successfully used any app and can recommend one of these in particular to recover LOST.DIR files copied from Android to Windows?

The files are now in Windows and will not be copied back to Android, unless this is the only way to try to recover them.

I was hoping for a definite recommendation of an application made for Windows from your list that someone had actually tested for this particular problem.

the only.problem 90percent of recovery softwares are paid even recover.my files which has free but limit no 100pervent free recovery

Since Android 4.2, I have not seen any recovery program actually recover a lost file. Many claim to work, but most of the time they are simply finding misplaced copies or thumbnails.

Once encryption and dynamically allocated partitions became default, those recovery apps became useless.

This does look like an issue.

I can trial install software to attempt to recover these files but I don't know how secure my data is or how good the software is unless I have tested it.

The only luck I have had is with Recuva but this was with a deleted file in Windows and does not relate to this particular problem.

That's most likely because the deleted file was on a physical partition and was not encrypted. In the past Recuva might have been an option, but today it's something that has little utility for Android. :(

It looks like trying to recover LOST.DIR files is a complete pain in the neck of a problem!
