Help Lost QO files on SD card in GS3

Retaining files when changing handset

I recently changed from a SE Xperia X10i to a Samsung Galaxy S3 phone. Installing Quick Office Pro on the new handset was straightforward, but I cannot locate any of the files and folders saved on the SD card, which has been transferred from the old to new handset.

Any idea what the problem is or how I can find the Quick Office files on the SD card? (I have tried the search feature in QO).

You have to remember in the xperia (and almost every other android phone) that your Micro SD Card is mounted as /sdcard

However, in the S3, the Micro SD Card is mounted as /extSdCard

Why? Well, the S3 has a big internal memory and for this to function, it must mount part of that internal memory as /sdcard

This means that any apps looking at /sdcard for data are now looking at the internal memory instead of the Micro SD Card.

Now I am not familiar with Quick Office. Can you change the location it looks for data to /extSdCard or /mnt/extSdCard?

If not, you may have to move the files (using a file explorer) to /sdcard or /mnt/sdcard manually. Thats not ideal though.

Thanks SUroot, I was not aware of that.

There is no option within the app to control where QuickOffice looks for files unfortunately, so I did have to move the files across from my old SD card to the GS3 handset manually using a file explorer in the end, as suggested.

It wasn't hard to do though:

In Apps, go to My Files
Listed there was /extSdCard and /sdcard
Tap /extSdCard
Find folder/s to transfer (e.g. downloads)
[All my QO files, and more, had been saved in sub-folders inside a folder called "downloads"]
Long press on the folder
Select either move or copy (I went for copy because I was scared of losing files by accident)
Use back button to return to /extSdCard and /sdcard
Tap /sdcard
Select destination folder
[I used "Download"]
Press Done button (top right hand corner of screen)

:dalek:

Glad you got it sorted. Shame about quick office though. Hopefully they will take account of this in the future.
