Help love it, but boy does the calendar suck.. any 3rd party calendars?

I got the htc magic for my wife. She likes it aside from the calendar. She has a crazy busy schedule, sometimes 4 appointments in an hour. Well in windows mobile it lays them all out you can read the titles even 4 in an hour on a tiny palm treo screen.. in htc magic you can often only read 2 titles and it's all overlapped bubbles. This is quite useless for her. She is now stuck using agenda view but she much prefers a visual view by day like windows mobile. Starting to think I should have just got her a palm pro.. is there anything that can be done? Thanks!
 
You can use QuickCalendar widget or Aniwidget. These will put a widget on the desktop showing upcoming appointments.

Thanks but i can't see how that would be any different than using the Agenda view already in the calendar. She needs to visually see the appointments and edit them as well..
 
I've been looking for a good Calendar replacement as well and that's the best alternative I can see. At least it is directly on the desktop and I do not need to go into the Calendar application to see my appointments.

Would have preferred finding a calendar application like the one on Nokia E71.
 
What does the browser vers look like to her? Google works in separate teams for Android, Mobile and Desktop so if the iPhone friendly browser version is to her liking she might see something like that in the Android application in the future.

Granted it means keeps a browser version open all the time, but it is an option if she likes it.
 
I'm anxiously awaiting "PimliCal" as I'm pretty happy with their DateBK on my current Palm (making the switch tomorrow).

So to clarify, Pimlical hasn't been released yet on Android. But I e-mailed them about it, and they mentioned since it's in Java, they expect an Android release pretty "soon." But that was a couple of months ago.
 
I'm also looking for a calendar app replacement. I find it frustrating i can't add "Guests" change calendars after the appointment is made... That is extremly frustrating. I use my Android for both work and personal and if i create an event it defaults to my personal but to change it over i either have to go to a desktop or delete and re-do remembering to change which cal its suppose to be on. Also reminders doesn't ask when you'd like it repeat event to stop. My dog had an ear infection so i put an event to put his drops in and well now its stretches until the day i die instead of a few weeks.

Any help would be appreciated, i feel like the android app has some holes and the web based on the device is sometimes better but lacking too.... Can't believe they've overlook this, a key function of a smart phone.

I'm a bit underwhelmed by the calendar, too. I love it on my desktop and it's one of the reasons I went for an Android phone. But, I find the UI on the handset is kinda primitive. I can put an appointment in, but the bells and whistles I care about aren't really an option. In particular, I like to set an email reminder to myself. On the desktop, I can choose between a pop up and an email, and how far in advance I want it. (I like it 24 hours before.) That's not how it plays out on the handset.

I agree with everyone....just some insight into Google's model of developing.

The desktop/browser calendar team is completely separate from the Android team which is completely separate from the Mobile Team (think your mobile web browser.)

The reasoning is no one area should be the leader. If someone has a good idea, less red tape to try and get that feature pushed out in their area. It causes some other good too, if one area has a feature come out the other areas can see about implementing the feature in the future, but feel little pressure to get it out at the same time, so they can deal with their bugs and other more pressing needs.

Not that it helps us, but maybe try the Google mobile web calendar and see what you think.
 
I recently downloaded an app called "Status Note". Not really the same as calendar, but im finding it a pretty damn good replacement for the time. You create a note with your details and select an icon within the app and it sits in your noticfication bar showing the icon at all times. So all you have to do is pull down the notification bar to see your apointments, etc etc. I actually really like this app alot.
She should give it a shot.

Interesting solution. It seems once again that would be a great feature of setting an appt in the main calendar. Otherwise I have to maintain a second pseudo calendar. Though this could work for really big important things I must not forget.

It really has been a fantastic replacement for me. I'm pretty happy without an actual calendar with this app. The free version only allows one entry, but the paid version does multiple entries. Its worth the one dollar lol.

quick calendar does this, and you can turn off the notification bar icon so that it doesnt' clog and give you that "you have multiple alerts" red dot thingy.

Hmmm...I like status note..but Ill give this quick calendar thing a shot right now.


Update! After using the quick calendar app for about 15 mins, I made the change. Quick calendar is perfect! Exactly what I wanted. Thanks man.
