Lowest data plan on a family NON Share Everything plan?

My family has a old school family plan, 700 shared minutes, unlimited texting etc. Its not getting changed any time soon since my brother and I each have UDP. Now, I want to upgrade my mom to a smartphone, but knowing her, 2 gigs for 30 bucks is ridiculous since she'd probably never need anywhere near that. Is there anything that can be done for a long time customers, ie over 10 years, in which I might be able to get, I dunno, a 10 odd plan for my mom, like 500 megs, etc?

You'll have to call Verizon and ask. They have a $15/250MB plan for the shared data plans, but I'm not sure you'll be able to put her on that since the rest of your lines are on individual unlimited data plans.

You could burn thru 250mb just syncing apps or watchin half a ytube video

Not really.. my mom uses around 100MBs/month on her iPhone 4 that she's had on my account for the past 18 months. Pretty sure she's never used over 200MBs. I just got her a Moto X last week though, so I'm curious to see if it will use any more data just by syncing and stuff. But she's at home on WiFi 90% of the time too.

So I've actually been meaning to ask if I can move her from the 2GB plan she's on now to the 250MB plan. I may ask for OP this week or something.

But she's at home on WiFi 90% of the time too.

^^^that is the key. Unless she is using social networking (Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter) like crazy when she is out and about, she should be fine. You can set Play, Amazon App Store, and OTA's to only update when on WiFi, so she should only be consuming data actively and not be surprised.
