LTE speeds

Was sitting around and decided to do a speed test and got these awesome LTE speeds! Ignore the last one on Wi-Fi. Also, I'm in metro Atlanta area.

WOW! Cool, are those in all different places or the same location.
If so, very inconsistent but impressive for VM nonetheless!

If I remember correctly the 2 lowest ones are on 3G and the rest are LTE which vary between 4 or 5 cities in Georgia.

Soo... At 29.49 mbps you can burn through your 2.5GBs in 11 minutes....

I still cannot wrap my head around buying a VM 4g phone when they still have throttling.

Yes, VM throttles, but many using LTE devices have reported going well over the 2.5 GB cutoff without throttling.

I just checked my last data cycle and saw that I used about 5 GB, most of it LTE, without any warnings or data slowdown. Amazing how easy it was to use that much!

You realize that not many people are downloading huge files all the time right? Fast speeds are so you don't have to wait for a Web page to load or a YouTube video to buffer. Also almost all carriers now have caps on their data and VM doesn't even enforce it yet. Plus, I'm only paying $35 dollars and I can get speeds faster than my Internet at home. I think that's a pretty good deal.

Right now I'm laughing at their "throttling" my speed down to 10x fastet than I am getting so it's a non issued. LOL!

If there wer 4gLTE that might be a different matter!

I see no point in having a cell phone and home internet.

You have wifi at home, at work, at public places, and almost everywhere.
Just use Groove IP with a old phone you like and viola, $35 dollars to goto a buffet 3 more times this month!

Also, Do you really want people to be able to call you anywhere? I for one like the peace of going to the store and back, without being interrupted by the phone/peoples jackassery.
If the call is important they will leave me a message and I will call them back.
I've also made it so except for family and friends all calls go straight to voice-mail anyways.

Last point, I get carsick when I am looking at devices while in motion and thus cannot use them in vehicles/planes/boats.

Good to know, I was thinking they were all from the same location.

Simply put the phone on silent.

Best of both worlds. :)

When I'm at work, my phone is the only source for internet connection besides a desktop used strictly for business. It's nice to have checking sports score, finding the best gas prices and for those times when I need to find my way back home in the dark.

As far as I know, as long as you have 4g coverage, it's unlimited. VM's website only shows data usage when I'm on 3G, which is basically never. I have loaded more than 1000 web pages, 500+ photos and used various other forms of data for at least 4 out of the 5 hours my phone is on each day, and yet it says that I've used 350 mb of data for the entire month.

Great results, OP. I'll see what mine are like around my area just to compare.

4G LTE not very impressive in Chicago. I think I'm averaging around 4mb down and 3 up. Meh. Granted, I just got the phone and haven't really left my neighborhood that much. Maybe it's faster elsewhere in the city?

No one else has anything to say about 4g LTE speeds?

I've just upgraded to Galaxy S3 (4G LTE) from HTC Evo V 4g (4G WiMax).
With WiMax, I consistently get over 5mbps (8mbp is average) here in NYC. LTE, a very big disappointment, I often clocked in on avg 3-4mbps. Not sure if it has to do with LTE, quite often I noticed the initial speed is slow (2mbps), it'll gradually go up to 5mbps. Very rarely do I encounter speed over 8mbps. On WiMax, I achieved 15mbps often at night times. Fastest 4G LTE achieved was 9 mbps and that only happened once.

Wife shut off her company blackberry with ATT, and got herself a VM iPhone 5 (black friday/cyber monday sale of $360). She's happy with 3-5 mbps speed. What's funny, at her office, she actually gets faster speed (on 3G) than her colleagues on Verizon and ATT (also using iPhones).

Overall, for the price we are paying and the speed we received for what we do, it's not so bad. Furthermore, a friend on Verizon clocked over 15mbps consistently 2 years ago is now only seeing 1-2 mbps (same phone, same plan). He just bought the S3 off VM and will be switching early Jan 2014.

Personally, here in NYC, I don't have much complaints in terms of signal,
coverage, speed. Although with the so called Network Vision and LTE, I would expect VM/Sprint 4G LTE to be on par with WiMax 4G (or at least 80% off, but not 50% off).

I hit 5 megs up and 3 down last night. Still a far cry from most other LTE speeds on other carriers. Meh.

I'm in Houston and have been curious what kind of LTE speeds Virgin Mobile customers have seen. I had a WiMax phone for about a month but returned it because of how few places I could get Wimax; though the areas I had it I typically averaged just under 5 Mbps, and 8 Mbps was about the highest I saw. 3G was even worse, I averaged maybe 300 Kbps, and would frequently see speeds 50 Kbps or slower.

I switched to T-Mobile prepaid ($30 plan) and have been much happier. Typically, I see LTE speeds in the range of 15-20 Mbps down and 10 Mbps up, and I've seen speeds over 30 Mbps down (33.13 down, 14.88 up, 48 ms ping is my best). Out of curiosity, I did a "4G" (HSPA+) speed test about 10 days ago and got 7 Mbps down.

Until only just recently, I was usually getting in the 10-12Mbps/5-6 range, the past week or so I've only gotten 5-6Mbps/2-1.5. But according to both Sprint's and VM's coverage map I shouldn't have 4G LTE, yet I do. Just now I got 6.33/1.95

I'm in Los Angeles and average 13-18Mbps DL, And 10 or so UL...Sometimes higher, But rarely do I drop below 10. Going back, Between AT&T, Tmobile and VM, Virgin Mobile has by far been thee most reliable and fastest network for me...

Forgot to mention, I got a message from VM saying that they were going to start throttling at the end of this month:

VMFreeMsg: Effective 1/31/14, data speeds may be
reduced once you use 2.5GB for 3G and/or 4G LTE data usage in your plan month. More info: http://msg4u.us/vmdt

WOW! Looking forward to LTE (hopefully soon) in my local area, definitely never heard anyone say Virgin has been the fastest and most reliable! That's really exciting!

Fwiw, it looks like my LTE speeds have been on the increase. I'm not sure if they've been upgrading towers, or whatever, but it's running pretty well.
